Default Stripped Exhaust Manifold Bolts/threads

Ok,

I did a search on Helicoils vs timecerts and came up with inconclusive results...its seems divided 50/50 and most of the posts were in reference to head studs, not what im dealing with.

so on my '00 Civic Si, Honda for some reason or another decided to use only two Studs on the exhaust manifold side of the head, all the rest of bolts which screw into the head. After having my manifold off and on many times ive managed to strip out 2 of the holes in my head. the rest ive replaced with Studs so i wont have this problem.

now, the two that are stripped, what are my options and what is recommended? ive never worked with helicoils or anything of that nature so can this procedure be done with the head ON the block? i assume ill be able have enough room with my A/C out and the manifold off the car etc.

what would you guys recommend?

anyone know by chance what size helicoil i need or what the thread/pitch of the factory bolts for the exhaust manifold are?

help!

Just fixed a stripped hole in my head the other day. It's a M8x1.25. I fixed it right in the car without any problems. Got the Helicoil right from Advance. Good luck....it's pretty easy...just take your time.

I would epoxy the studs in there. If you do it clean you wont be able to tell. I have the same problem on one of mine.

I love the Time-Sert stuff. Its just better engineered than helicoil. If you have room to line the tap up on the hole, you have room to repair the threads in place. Fix it right with these and it will be much stronger than the original aluminum threads ever were,

Best of luck with your project.
