should i buy a turboed r
i am in the market for a type-r and found a turbo type r for sale. here is what is done to it-
Interior:
Greddy Shift ****
Black Leather Interior
Black Greddy Turbo Timer
Black 52mm Greddy Fuel Pressure Gauge (located where cruise control is
normally located)
Pearl White 60mm Greddy Peak/Hold Boost and EGT gauges on the pillar
J & S Safeguard version 2 with knock/retard gauge
Apexi V-AFC
Engine:
Rev Hard Stage 2 turbo kit
Replaced Rev Hard manifold with Inline Pro Stainless steel manifold
Red powder coated piping
310cc RC injectors (also have DSM 450cc injectors not installed)
Vortech FMU with 8:1 disk (also have the FMU recalibration kit that includes
all the other disks)
HKS 2.6mm headgasket (lowers compression to ~9:1)
AEM cam gears
Custom 3” downpipe (starts out as 2.5” then flares to 3” after the a/c
compressor)
No cat
Thermal 3” stainless steel exhaust
Action Stage 2MD clutch (six puck disk/dual-diaphragm pressure plate)
MSD ignition
MSD Blaster Coil
Magnecore 8.5 mm ignition wires
Exterior:
Clear corners
Skunk2 coilovers
KYB adjustable shocks up front, stock rear shocks
my concern is that it is a turboed car and it is sorta hard for me to know how it has been treated. from what the guy says it has been turboed for atleast 2 years or so and never had any problems. it has also seen only 7-9 lbs. of boost. not that i think that it is about to blow up or anything, but i just dont want to get into a car that is gonna blow, and i cant afford to fix and still have to pay off. so what are yalls opinions on the car, do you think it is reliable enough to be worth buying? also i have considered taking the kit off and selling it and just buying stock parts for it, if i were to buy it, to keep it more dependable so to speak. just give me any input you might have on what i should do.
thanks
cade

Re: should i buy a turboed r (Showoff)
turbo your car = yes, if you have $$
Buy a turboed (non factory) = never...your begging for trouble.!! Especially an R!!
EDIT: that setup sucks! I wouldn't expect it to last too long!

I bought my CRX already boosted, and had no problems with it until that god-awful shop messed up my actuator flapper, but that's a different story.
I wouldn't buy a boosted R though. Something about high compression + boost that doesn't sound right to me

Yep my friend bought a One of the First boosted cars in Texas, this car was first boosted in 95. He had it for 2 weeks and it blew.

If you are planning on rebuilding the engine, then it 'might' be okay...but you should consider the overall condition of the car too. Otherwise, pass it!...Buy a NA car and turbo it yourself so that you are aware of what problem you may have and are able to prepare for it.

Yea i agree. If you plan on rebuilding then maybe. But you never knwo what this thing has gone through. If you do buy it, make sure you get it checked EXTENSIVELY by eitehr yourself or someone who knwos what thier doing. Meaning leak down test etc etc.....

Re: should i buy a turboed r (MordecaiPSI)
if you're buying a modded car... you KNOW they drove the hell out of it..no way someone would mod their car for performance and drive like a granny.. and plus he's not using a very good fuel management! FMU?
