Reason's for ticking noise (besides needing valve adj)
I'm experiencing a light ticking noise in my engine. I thought the valves needed adjusting but I took it to Honda and it did not help. Any other reasons for a noise of this nature??

Re: Reason's for ticking noise (space-tuna)
My motor did the same thing a few weeks back. I suspected the LMA's, but I never truly found out where it was coming from. Does it make the sound at all rpms or only in the low range?

Re: Reason's for ticking noise (RacerXI)
What exactly is an LMA??? It makes the ticking in all RPM's What did you do about it?? Someone suggested it may be a valve seal tearing apart.

my d16z6 ticks at idle too.. i cant really tell where its coming from though... only that its near the fuel rail and cam gear.

its your pistons, I just did my internals and I'm getting the ticking too. Its noticable when u start up but after the engine warms up the sound gets softer. Did you just get it done? Make sure not to boost until u get at least 700 miles on the new motor and rev no more than 3500 rpm while breaking it in.

ecaxtly what he said, forged pistons but once it warms up, cant notice much

i got a B series its a B18B1 96 engine..i got forged pistons.. and it ticks when its cold.. cause it needs to expand, i got Eagle rods too, and crower valves, and crower springs, oh the injectors tick also.. and B series usually has a small tick, i don't know why.. but its a small tick and thats normal, as long as its not coming from the bottom end like a DSM your ok..

A LMA is a lost motion assembly. It's pretty much a lifter that puts pressure on the vtec lobe to keep it form rattling when it is not in use. I've heard they bind more than anything, but I have no personal experience with them.
I was also told by a shop that my motor had bent wrist pins on it, but my motor only made the sound during lower rpms (4K or below). Good luck figuring it out.

Re: (Prelude91siT)
The piston noise that your are referring to is called "Piston Slap" some engine builders build with a looser tolerance when using forged pistons in a FI motor.
That may or may not be the problem I was just letting you know what it was called

if you have billet cams the noise will never go away...but if you dont then get your rockers checked....

what builder builds a engine with loose tolerances I hope he didn't build yours the only thing I can think of that would be considered loose would be the piston ring gap(FI) other than that you want everything else spot on not loose
