i have a stock 2000 ex with a boosted d16y8. when i was tapping into the block at the oil pressure sensor, i broke it on accident, now after driving the car for 3 days, my oil light came on. i checked the oil and its fine. could the chipped obd1 ecu be throwing the oil light on because the sensor i broke or is it something else? i didnt think the obd1 ecu even had an oil pressure sensor..? any ideas? thanks in advance

i already posted in your other thread, not sure you need two but anyways...

the oil pressure sensor is just a dummy light that turns on at <5psi and is not controlled by the ecu in any way.

is oil lekaing from oil sensor? what exactly did you break?

the only way the light would come on is if the sensor is plugged in and not getting pressure. i would figure that out asap because if you really have no oil pressure then your motor is gonna be destroyed quickly

the sensor itself has no wiring going to it cuz it broke off so would that be why the light is coming on cuz the sensor is not connected to the wirring

no the light should not come on if the wires are disconnected. are the wires exposed or any way grounding out?

not sure. im pretty sure theyre jus hanging there tho. but im gonna be under the car later on today an im gonna check it out... can i jus get a new oil pressure sender from napa or autozone and jus plug that in there and everything work out?

did you snap the threads off on the block or something? the switch looks like this

my bet is wires grounding out. a new sensor is like $7 from advanced auto

no i didnt break the threads, i broke that black rubber part the connnects the prong to the bolt part. it split in half

do u think maybe im shooting oil out of there and thats where im leaking oil from? i jus thought about that??

its possible. but still the light should not come on if the wires are disconnected. check the wiring, if its just loose it could have gotten caught up on something

ok i will . is there a hole straight through the end of the sender cuz i have oil around that area and if there is one, then its probably shooting out of there..

The rubber cover? That's the only rubber part I know of on it. The rest is metal and plastic (black part) - at least on all the blocks I've ever worked on & stripped.

As mentioned, it will ground out & show the light if it's below 4-5psi, but only if your wiring harness attaches to it. If your connector cracked off and touches the block, that too would show the light since it's physically grounding out.
