I searched some but could not find what I was looking for.

THe other day I looked under my car and saw that my oil pan was not dripping oil but sorta sweating up by the gasket, enough for some to have gotten on the downpipe also. At first I thought turbo seals so I pulled off my piping to check for oil in them, not a drop.

My next thought was PCV not working so excessive crankcase pressure blew out gaket so I pulled out the pcv valve and its working fine. FYI I have not modded my pcv system at all from stock. Could it just be I need to upgrade to a catch can cause stock system is not venting enough pressure? Another fyi I do not have any filter or anything on the valve cover breather hole, no oil has ever come out of there.

I was also thinking that the gasket itself is not leaking but the gasket sealer I used on it is letting some oil get by. I haven't really checked the bolts yet to see if they backed out but I tourqed them down last time to spec.

Motor is 95 gsr

Any ideas out there HT guys????

I think that sounds normal. Mine does that, even with the factory gasket. If its not leaking oil, like making puddles on the ground then whats the problem? I bet that gasket is as old as the engine is - '95, you could probably clear this up by dropping the oil pan, cleaning up all the surfaces then reinstall the pan with a new gasket.

the gasket is like a few months old (december). I replaced it when I had my oil return bung welded in during turbo install.

I'm just worried it will get worse. Also wondering why it is happening. And what I can do to stop it.

I got a new gasket anyway yesterday, I will replace this weekend.

What about not using gasket sealer when putting it on?

I put some gasket sealant spray on mine, cant hurt. its kinda of hard to keep the gasket from moving all around without something sticky to keep it in place. i think thats responsible for causing most ppl's leaks, a slight shift in the gasket when they tighten it down. i didnt even bother with torque specs, just dont get crazy and squeeze the gasket. No leaks here.

Honda oil pans are so easy to get right. Try doing an old school domestic oil pan, they dont even use gaskets, they use a just friggin bead of silicone.

I did goup the sealant on there quite a bit!!

Has anyone had good/bad experiences with not using any sealant and just straight gasket??

maybe some good ol' crush washers also to help!!

the three times i have dropped an oil pan on my car and my friend's car, i replaced the gasket w/o any hondabond or sealant and there weren't any leaks.

did you tighten the bolts in an X pattern as someone mentioned above? and did you tighten each bolt with 1/3 of a turn in the same pattern?

I X'ed the bolts like your supposed to.

Tomorrow/this weekend I will pull the pan off and replace gasket without any sealant/hondabond. Hopefully this works.

I just dropped my oil pan last night. Damn so many little bolts. Mines is still leaking though I got to check it out tonight. Damn buggers.

dropped pan, what a pain in the ***, to get it off, I had to take off my downpipe, to do that I had to take off some charge piping, to finally get the downpipe off, I had to undo my oil return also!!

Cleaned both surfaces completely, washed oil pan off/out, dried it and reinstalled without any gasket sealer. I touqed all bolts down in x pattern to 9lbs like manual said and it still leaked like a bitch. I retourqed all bolts again last night like 5 times and drove it around. Now it only leaks by the two bolts on the flywheel side.

Now I'm completly at a loss. Do I tourqe the bolts some more, like 9.5 or 10 lbs or what?

Any suggestions??

my 98 accord F23 is just like an old school domestic. NO gasket available, they say used hondabond. Used that, trusted my friend to tighten it correct (DON'T TRUST ANYONE), he didn't, had a MASSIVE oil leak after the turbo install, got under the car and tightened the pan up myself, and still have a small leak. NOT looking forward to dropping the pan again.

Does anyone else (On GSR Motor) have two little metal o rings on the two studs for the oil pan near the flywheel (these two are under the flywheel cover when everything is put back together)?

I think these might be the source of my leak. I do not think they are supposed to be there.

I do not remember any O rings for the oil pan bolts. I did not even properly torque mine down. I just did it hand tight with my little 1/4" rachet so it wasnt too tight. no leaks.

i don't remember any O rings around that area. did you tighten each bolt 1/3 of a turn first before tightening it down a second and finally a third time, for the final torque down?

Yea, I tourqed everything right, tightened down in series.

I'm pretty sure that the two orings are my problem. Thats pretty much the only place that it leaks and anywhere else is most likely cause the pan is not sitting right. I'll pull pan off again this weekend and take out the o rings.

None of my buddies have them either. I wonder why they are there?

Damn I have an oil leak with my oil pan also.

Never had any problems till my turbo install, since then I changed the gasket like three times already.

For some reason it leaks no matter what I do. So I kind of gave up on it till I saw this post.

Do you guys think it might be my Oil pan itself?? I used an OEM gasket with Ultra Grey.

how bad does yours leak?

From what I gather almost all turbo cars "sweat" oil sorta by the gasket, but it shouldn't be a lot, none should hit the ground. But mine is dripping on the downpipe and ground a lot.

Don't use the permatex stuff, don't use anything but the gasket. I think the sealer blows out before the gasket does.

YES, that's where your leak is coming from. If you check your gasket, it has 2 o-rings built into those two holes. When you took your old gasket off, those two O-rings stuck on the block. Grab a pair of needle nose pliers and they will come right off. I had the same problem as you, and tried replacing the gasket a 2nd time, so I had 3 sets of washers on there... it leaked like you wouldn't believe.

Take 'em off and you should be fine. That stopped my pan from leaking on that side... now it's just the other side I have to worry about.

I have a B16 motor if that matters, I know they said on Gs-R but just wanted to know.

we're talking about two little washers on the two studs for your oil pan that are right beside the flywheel. (under the flywheel cover when it is on)

I guess on oil pan gaskets these washers/o rings are INSIDE the gasket, to make a good seal when its put on.

When I took the pan off, the pressure from everything being connected pushed the washers against bottom of block and they sorta stuck there. Now I go to put on a new gasket which has a new set of washers inside and it wont seal right cause the original washers are on there.

Crap my oil leak was on the side where the powersteering pump was now its on the flywheel side. I hand tight it too.. lucky now i know I need some washers there. dammit. alot of trouble
