Default My First Problem with E85

A few days ago, I was getting ready for work as always. So I walked out in my garage and started my car like normal. Breathing in the beautiful corn smelling fumes from the exhaust. I noticed my exhaust was sounding different in an odd way, or was it that I was still tired? Being in a slight hurry I pulled it out of the garage and to my dismay there were seeds on the driveway.

I went back in the garage to find that a mouse must have gotten into the bird seed. There was a hole in the bag with seeds everywhere. I have been driving my car for about 3 years with E85, and without problems. Well as you see in the picture below the mouse found a new home in my exhaust.

After I flushed him out and got rid of all the seeds, I rid my garage of the bird seed as well. Now almost every damn day I start my car (with remote start) I watch to see if a mouse jumps out of the tail pipe. Sure enough almost every day a mouse comes out. I can only assume it goes into the exhaust, not because it is warm, but because of the funny corn smell that is there. I tried to see if my logic was true by blocking off the exhaust pipe and let it cool down over night. Then on Saturday I unblocked it and started it to confirm there were no mice in the pipe. The next day (today Sunday) I went out and started it and sure enough a mouse came out.

So now I put mouse poison by my exhaust and hopefully it will "cure" the problem. My only logic is that the mouse must smell the nasty raw smelling of E85 and thinks there is corn or the likes in the exhaust. I have dog food and such in my garage and the mouse never gets into it.

The purpose of this thread is just to help people or forewarn them that mice might get into your exhaust if you let it sit for a time and build a nest. Good thing this is my daily driver it happened to otherwise who knows how much **** would have been in my exhaust and how plugged up it could have gotten. So don't be a fool and wrap your exhaust hole... LoL... if you are going to let your car sit for a while and you run E85.

It’s not all that uncommon; they have even bread a cat just for that. Pipecat can get into all sorts of places.

try putting some of that tacky sticky typr traps with in a few inches of you car so they cant get close enough to climb in, that or put a metal screen and a clamp around it like you would on a turbo for a filter. im sure it wont impede flow that much
