Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
Wow... this thread has been quiet. How about I throw a little fuel on it and spark things up !!!
This past week, my intercooler work was completed and all of the basic "functional" work was addressed... and last night, Motorvations Motorsports strapped her down to the dyno and made some pretty impressive numbers. I am going to create a build thread with all of the particular details, but in short, the set up is:
1.9L DOHC VTEC engine (sleeved B18C5 block @ 84mm bore w/ GSR head)
11.5:1 compression
Kraftwerks "B" series bracket kit modified for a C38-91 Rotrex supercharger.
Victor X intake manifold and DW 1200cc fuel injectors
HyTech 4-1 header and Thermal 3" cat-back.
Tuned on VP MS109
Performance results:
475 WHP, 276 ft/lbs. Torque at just shy of 18 psi of boost. For reference, the red line on the graph is the N/A tune of the engine.

DA BOSS, the N/A output is the red lines on the above dyno sheet (223 HP/150 TQ)... the blue lines are the Supercharged results.

Great numbers! Very strong ! Any in car pulls on video? Are you the 1st person to retro fit a C38 series charger on the car?

GEN2 LS, no in car videos as of yet. The front bumper cover hasn't been fitted (clearanced to accommodate the intercooler and charge piping) nor have I created a proper inlet pipe. Today, in order to promote better traction I installed a set of 15x8 6UL's wrapped in P225/45ZR15 Toyo R888's. Hopefully, these will help tame the increase in power.
As for being the first to utilize the C38... I was the first to begin the process, but I believe actually the second in completing a running engine with a C38. My understanding is that the first car, from Massachusetts I believe, had an engine failure either during or shortly after dyno tuning. Performance numbers, although second hand, were quoted to me as 417 wheel HP on pump gas and 453 wheel HP on E85. Engine was a high compression CRVtec.
Mine runs just fine, and the tune is not a "ragged edge" tune where I need to be expecting an engine failure at any time.
Tuning conditions couldn't have been worse... the temperature hovering between 97 and 100 degrees and the humidity heavy at 69%. So given the conditions, I am tickled with the results and I look forward to re-tuning toward the end of the year when cooler and drier conditions would produce more favorable numbers... I believe the 500 HP mark is reachable. I will keep this thread updated as to my progress.

Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
Has as anyone ran into this type of situation when the pulley is contacting the headlight housing? This is in a eg chassis and I actually had to loosen the headlight to clear this pulley. If I try to reinstall the headlight it contacts the pulley. The headlights are aftermarket eBay black housing "jdm style" head lights.

I wanted to use the same housings Andy... they were not even close. I have seen many EG cars running into the same problem as you have asked about. The body of the headlight housings are grossly oversized on the Spec-D/JDM housings compared to the stock housings, and trimming the back corner of the drivers side housing is common to make the necessary clearance. In my case, I would have been forced to cut nearly 1/3 of the of the housing off to clear the upper pulley... losing the adjustment gear and the spring; allowing the internal reflector to rattle/vibrate inside the housing. I ended up finding a brand new set of OE headlights instead... and there is PLENTY of room for pulley clearance.
As an aside: TEASER !!! I will be posting new dyno results in the next few days... a junk t-bolt clamp created a rather large boost leak between the supercharger and intercooler. The Tuner says it is likely that I will break the 500 wheel HP mark because the size of the leak was so large... even in this summer heat. Fingers crossed.

thanks JRCivic1! I will source some oe headlights then. CJ from skunk2 got back with me and suggested the same thing. Though he was unaware of the issue at first. On a side note where is everyone mounting their resivour canisters and oil coolers? In the rotrex booklet the kit comes with it says to place these 2 components BELOW the supercharger impeller shaft. I am having difficulty finding a good place below the impeller shaft as they suggest. I am looking for ideas to where to mount them.

Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
correct it's a B-series kit in a 1995 civic with aftermarket "JDM style" headlights from eBay .. I will be ordering some oe headlights soon to confirm what JRCivics suggested as well as CJ from Skunk2.

Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
OK ladies and gentleman, here are my NEW dyno results !!! A kinked T-bolt clamp between the supercharger outlet and the inlet of the intercooler (back door style) was discovered creating a rather large boost leak... especially at higher rpm. Once replaced, boost increased 2.5 psi at redline, adding 30 wheel hp to the previous result for a grand total of 505 wheel HP and 285 ft/lbs of torque.
Here is a pic of the offending clamp, a pic of the dyno result (Supercharged power in blue, N/A power in red for reference), and a pic of the clearance between the upper pulley and the back of the OE headlight for Andy8.
Enjoy.

Thank you for the pic JRCivic1!!! I will be ordering up some oe head lights very soon! That power looks great! Very impressive in deed. What are your plans for the car? Do you plan to be competitive in any type of racing?

It has always been a Drag Race/Street Race car. It has been DOHC powered and Supercharged since August of 1998. The JRSC was good... but this is WAY better !!!

Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
where did you end up mounting your canister and oil cooler? I am having trouble coming up with ideas as to where to put them that will be lower the the impeller shaft like rotrex suggests.

My reservoir is mounted on the passenger side frame rail and the oil cooler is sitting vertically with the bottom on the lower core support... about where the OE A/C condenser would be... butted up to the radiator. Look for my build thread this weekend... it will have more pics.

Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
Chillinit,
I think it would be close... if you ran it, the discharge of the supercharger would have to point straight down or straight up and not face forward like mine does. This will certainly cause some packaging challenges, but I think it could be worked out. I also have a traction bar which limits how much real estate I have to run piping down low, so a full width radiator in my application would require the supercharger discharge port to point up. The charge pipe would have to come over to the hole in the frame for the windshield washer bottle, turn down through it and out to a conventional intercooler. Sandwiching the oil cooler in between the radiator and intercooler would also require some creative line routing.

Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
I have created a build thread for those interested in a formula/blueprint for a more powerful Rotrex based Supercharged "B" series engine. The best part is you all already know the outcome... so this will NOT be one of those build threads that starts, gets a lot of people excited, and then stalls... ending up in the "never completed" category !!! LOL

Not quite 21 psi. The next step if I "need" more power will be to build a larger displacement engine... in the 2.1-2.2L range. This should drop the boost pressure down about 3 psi and the HP should increase about 8%.

I happened to be at Motorvations Motorsports today and saw a couple of their new "C38 Big Boost" kits on the shelf... and a couple shipping out to customers. It looks like more and more people out there in the Honda/Acura world will be making more power than ever with the new Rotrex Supercharger platform.

Re: KraftWerks B-Series Race Supercharger Kit (Unbelievable Gains!)
Trying to secure some info on this kit:
-Any list of headers that clear the kit?
-It specifically states on the Kraftwerks site to use the USDM GSR crank pulley. I have a stock 96 spec JDM ITR B18C, I was under the impression that the crank pulley is the same? Any reason I would NEED to switch to the USDM crank pulley?
