As everyone knows 14.7:1 is an ideal air/fuel ratio, and 12:1 for forced induction in boost. However, i was talking with a friend of mine that says "Yes, those are ideal for emissions, but for performance, you want 13:1 for N/A and 11:1 for boost".

I thought the closer you get to leaner AFR in boost (just enough to get combustion with good stoichiometric ratio) the better power you'll get. In other words, if you get too rich, you're losing power.

Is this true?

yes its true, Too rich = loss of power
and too lean = loss of power.

need to find that point of max power, and normaly its around 12.

there is a fine line in there somewhere and on the urge of blowing it up is when it runs the best but do some dyno tuning to see where the happy medium is

in terms of making power, a/f ratio doesn't play as a big a role a lot of people might think. on the dyno this weekend, i actually saw the a/f change from a high 10 all the way to the 17:1 range, and the amount of torque the car was making really didn't change that much. going with a conservative a/f ratio helps a lot with heat, so pick a number you're comfortable with, maybe in the mid 12:1 range, and you'll still make good power.

Conservative a/f will not help you with heat. If you have a wideband and a EGT you will see that your engine will run coolest (on wot) around the 12:1 ratio.
Too rich will make your engine hotter and too Lean will make your engine hotter.

kinda contradicted yourself a little there.............

You also have take into consideration different levels of boost... you don't have to run as rich on lower levels of pressure due to the fact of not creating as much heat. I won't run any richer than 12:1 regardless
