HX40, HX40W and HE431 run close to about 70lbs/min at 3.2PR.

That means that maximum efficiency for use of that turbo is about 31-33psi of pressure. for 70lbs/min to be effective that's a bit over 600-700whp maximum. Doesn't matter if you're an LS/VTEC or a 383 stroker v8. the turbo can flow only so much. Some variances include which turbine housing you're using such as either 12cm^2 or 18cm^2. No one can guess your exact hp from this, but this is about the range you'll fall in, provided you have the correct supplemental components to aid in that kind of power

would the HE351cw fall into this same category? To my knowledge the only difference would be the 9cm housing that the 531 uses. I think the wheels are identical though. FYI, I made 305/200 on a stock b16 at 10.8psi according to the datalog.

No. different wheels, different flow rate.

HE351 and HE300 series are about 52-56lbs/min at 3.0PR (29-30psi of pressure) maximum use.

Former design engineer at Honeywell Turbo Technologies. You get used to this stuff after a while.

different wheel /shaft package entirely. HX40 can range from about 62lbs/min-70lbs/min MAXIMUM, depending upon housing size and which HX40 you have. there are several combinations.

Excellent info man, I really appriciate it. I will be pushing the He351cw a whole lot further, after studying its compressor map, Im not even in the first island untill about 1 bar of pressure... pretty stout OEM turbos

That's because they they were the only diesel turbos that were designed to take high rotational speeds. In the diesel world, they are considered to be HIGH performance. It just so happens that they can work somewhat effectively on gasoline powered engines.

Now, when it comes to rebuild or replacement of any components, that's a different story. You'll be more pissed off than ever, when you find you can't rebuild the damn things very cheaply or easily.

That's what I was thinking, rebuild kits are all over ebay or you can get 'em at the Dodge dealer. I've had Holset apart and it was 1000% easier than the IHI turbo I did.

That's because 99% on ebay aren't the real parts (though most of the younger people don't care), and you're not accounting for replacement damage to wheels, shafts and housings. So go ebay if you must, but buyer beware. The IHI turbos are a b!tch to rebuild if at all. Especially the Subarus.

The ones from the Dodge dealer for the Cummins have to be machined to fit some of the other HX series wheels. Ask how much they want for a compressor cover or turbine wheel. Only then will you **** your pants at the price. (At least from what I recall)

When I say rebuild, I don't mean just some internal bushing kit. I mean THE WHOLE REBUILD. You're better off finding another used one. Just letting you know.

Thats what im thinking.... If I ever need to replace the turbo because of damage...etc; Ill just go out and buy another used one.... they can be readilly had for ~300bucks, if lubricated properly, shouldnt these turbos last 100k+ miles? hell they are OEM component, I would think they should be pretty reliable (assuming you have your supporting components)

Similar to HX35, about 53lbs/min-56lbs/min

Hehe..Alright, no more of HP expectations, I'm not much of a Holset fan. I may know a bit, but I'm no encyclopedia for them. different housings will give different results on similar types. They all run within the same family.

HX30,30W/HY30/HE300 - 35lbs/min range

HX30,30W/HE300 - 33lbs/min range

HX32W/HY35W/HX35/35W - 55lbs/min range

HX35,35W/HX35/40, HX40W/ HE431 - 70lbs/min - 80lbs/min depending upon turbine wheel and housing.

and a billion others.

No worries. I get an average of about 15/day. I never mind helping, but when its just questions of XXHP for XX Turbo with no additional input, it gets a bit gruesome. I'm not a vending machine just spitting out a can of answers based on a button, ya know?
