The shop I bought my Hondata P28 from sent me a P06 instead. It says P28 on the invoice they sent me. On the outside of the ECU it says Hondata, but all the external P06 stickers have been removed, with the exception of the one on the plug. The paint on the underside, as well as on top near the screws is scraped down to bare metal. I called them and they told me that because of a shortage of P28s, Hondata started modifying P06s (92-95 DX no VTEC), to include VTEC and that the motherboards were identical. No information on Hondata's site supports this claim. The chart clearly shows which ECUs are suitable for my car: P30,P72,P28,P61. I paid full price for this ECU, BTW. Did this happen to anyone else?

That's been a known process for a long time now. The P06 is a P28 ECU with the VTEC transistors and a couple of other thing stripped out. Take a P06 + a few parts and voila, you've got a P28.

It is now a p28, as it has been modified from it p06 origins.

hondata told me to do that months ago. picked up my ECU for $9. Call them and they will say you can use a p06 if you want.

Got another question

Would I have to send the p06 ecu to Hondata so they can modify it to p28 specs or can the Hondata dealer do it.

Depends on if the dealer A) has their head out of their *** + knows how to do it and B) if they feel like hassling with it.

I've got a pile of P06, PR4 and P74 love here, all upgradable motherboards. I guess I'll eventually get around to converting them. Always something else to do that seems more important.
