got the turbo d16 up and running. pics inside
got the bitch running about a week ago. its still not totally done, but its driveable. here's the setup
stock bottom end d16z6 (143,000 miles)
act hdss/streetlite flywheel
t3 50 trim .60/.48
tial 38mm external currently with 5.8 psi spring
log manifold
2.25 downpipe with wastegate routed back in
dsm 1G bov
dsm 450's ( i used inline resistors)
hondata intake gasket
johnnyracecar 5" intercooler
uberdata
apex ws catback
walbro 255 intank
stealthmode oil line kit
ls throttle body
other gadgets are roadraceengineering catchcan, innovative lm-1 wideband, autometer gauges.
i had to cut more of my bumper than i had anticipated for the intercooler to fit, and i also had to remove the a/c, cause the elbow on the downpipe was hitting the compressor(i think its the compressor) just enough to not fit. thanks to acura_i-rs for the turbo, wisjdmhonda for the intercooler pipes, alteredautosports ian for the manifold/downpipe&elbow/wastegate, and to my friends who spent late nights in my garage to argue with me about how to do ****
i mounted the catchcan pretty low, u can see the breather filter below the bov on the strut tower
oil return hits the downpipe- thank god for the heatwrap
dsm blue top 450's and the hondata gasket
intercooler from the inside of the engine bay- it sure is long
full engine bay shot
there's the full car shot.
its holding steady 6psi right now, and pulls pretty damn good. cant wait to get to the tuning and up the boost to around 9psi

Does your BOV "flutter" at low to mid throttle? When i get off the gas mine flutters unless im WOT or hitting the gas hard, then it blows off but i still get the fluttering noise.
I just got my turbo on my EJ1 last weekend. I friggin welded the BOV on top of the piping and it sticks WAY up... touches the hood DOH!
Oh and lastly... I also got the JRC 5" IC and it has those same black marks on the inside of it, in the same spot. Wonder what thats from...

sometimes in vacuum it will give the slightest high pitch whistle for like half a a second. id venture to say that the marks were on the entire core. if u look at the top and bottom of the core, its rough. im pretty sure that he just gets huge cores and cuts them into 5" or 6" heights then welds on the end tanks.
usdm 4g vtec- the angle that pic is take at has the bottom of the bumper support hiding some of the depth of the intercooler. turns out that in the process of putting everything back together, the bracket i mounted the intercooler with bent, and if u look closely from the front, its not even

i didnt cut too much out to mount my IC.
Just had to trim the front gril and cut out the foglight areas. I noticed today after 3 days that the pressure my piping is putting on the foglight areas (bending it down) is cracking the bumper. No big deal to me cause the car looks like crap anyways. lol
I mounted it with ZIP ties.

im on my friends name. the manifold i was told is a custom turbonetics. i got it used from ian at alteredautosports from the turbod16 classifieds. the manifold and downpipe both have a 1600 degree hpc coating on them from what i was told.

Re: (VRBtchcar)
Do you have any better pics of the bumper and how much you had to cut it?
I have the same car and intercooler....I'm wondering how much I am going to have to hack up the bumper...
It looks like you didn't have to cut the center out

you can see where the intercooler pipe hits the bumper, that had to be trimmed away
here too- this side was cut where the side of the endtank is, and also where the pipe is. for reference, these pipes goin in and out of the intercooler are 2.25 inches.
the middle did not have to get cut out, but as someone previously said, i had to trim it back a lil bit.
closer shot of the turbo. hey, why not.
shot inside the endtank looking at the core
oil feed. i originally broke off the fitting in the back of the block. i thought i was fucked, but i got and extractor bit, and saved myself alot of hassle.
intercooler mounted before the bumper got put back on. you can see that its ****** long.
blaze45- the uberdata is easy to use. i just browsed around their forum for a while, it wont take long to catch on. im currently having a lil trouble burning chips(not uberdata related), so the map i got in there now isnt really tuned(but i did hookup the wideband and im running 11.5 in boost, so at least its not lean).
the car also seems to hesitate in boost at higher rpm's just a little, but for the moment im gonna chalk that up to running a lil too rich with a little too much timing retard.
