Default Garrett T25 oil return fitting size and clocking issues! *frustrated*

:::See update at the bottom of this post:::

First of all, I can't figure out the stinkin oil return fitting size on my Garrett T25 turbo...

I don't want to have to buy a flange, then drill and tap holes for the bolts if the drain is already threaded!!

Does anyone know the size????

I have tried to contact Garrett but without any luck! They have no direct email address or phone number on their web site! (how ghetto is that?)

I then tried to email three different distributors whos email addresses I found on Garrett's site...but I had all those kicked back to me because the email addies were all bunk!!

I am also having issues clocking the stupid thing...I have some heavy duty snap ring pliers but they keep slipping off! I've been trying to get that snap ring off so I can clock the compressor housing and then tap new holes for the wastegate, but I can't get that stupid snap ring undone!!!

Thanks for any tips you might have...sorry if I'm frustrated...

:::Cliff notes:::

1. I need to know the oil return fitting size
2. I need some pointers on getting the huge snap ring free so I can clock the turbo...

:::Update:::

I finally figured out how to clock the darn thing! Now I just need to find a way to mount the wastegate...

****I just spent some time at STS turbo (http://www.ststurbo.com/home) because they are local here...

They carry a TON of turbo fittings because they do custom kits, but we couldn't figure out the size of the oil return fitting!!

If anyone knows the size of this fitting or another alternative to the oil drain I would really appreciate it!

BTW... a guy at STS has a remote mount turbo CRX (the turbo sits in the back where the muffler usually is)....sweet....

Maybe 1/4" NPT?

Are your snap ring pliers angled?

Yes, they are angled but they keep slipping off anyways!

it is an inverted flare. with a metric thread. xrp makes a powersteering fitting that will fit like a glove. and it comes out to a 4an flare. xrp part number 402704.

now that i look at the pic that looks like the inlet. not the drain. drain should have two bolts to put a flange.

I don't know why there are no threads for a flange...

Here's the oil inlet

I'm sure it's the drain...

It's been awhile since I clocked my T25, but I did not have to remove the snap ring to do it. Just remove the bolts and give the compressor housing a good yank get it unstuck. It should rotate without removing the snap ring. Mine was "stuck" pretty badly the first time (50000 miles on the turbo) so it took some effort to get the housing to move, but once it broke loose it rotated freely.

Dude, I'm serious. You don't have to remove the snap ring to clock the turbo. When I said "yank" I meant really hard. I actually used a rubber mallett to get mine unstuck. If it's a well-used turbo, then all the oil coking and crap really sticks the sides together.

Heheh... "turdblow"... I feel your pain.

You did ? I must be smoking a good la la that day LOL JK

The feed is a 7/16 Inverted flare to a -3AN

the return thread I am not too sure, but I think I did one years ago, it was a 1/2 BSP o-ring boss. If you can measure the diameter of the return hole, I can tell you what it is... and I'll know the thread right away..

I have all the fittings that you need.

Have you gone to like a home depot, or -AN fitting store and tried everything they have? I have a T25 from a Pontiac Sunbird and I tried to find the oil drain size, as it was threaded just like yours... I ended up just giving up. I just couldn't find the size. It had to have been some custom size or something...

You can see in the first pic above that the edge is beveled a bit...

The nickel fits right inside the bevel and sits on the threads...

And the quarter is about the size of the outside edge of the bevel...

Thanks again for your help Stan

If you want to wait a couple days I will be headed down to my friends shop where my car is at cuz i just turbo'd my d15b w/ a t25 and went through the same damn problem finding fittings. the small threaded hole where the garrett stamp is, thats the oil feed and the bigger hole is the drain. I know my friend custom made a oil return fitting but i bought an AN fitting for the feed at a local speed shop. I'll get that fitting size for you bro. Go D series turbo ninjas

Whenever I needed fittings for my turbos, I would take them to home-depot's or fitting stores and just find the stuff there.

Ah, this is the new-model Garrett T-25. I had one of these for a few days before I completely destroyed it. Long story.

The drain fitting is a massive IF. I don't remember exactly which, but I ended up finding the fitting at a semi-truck outfitter. The inlet size is also one IF size larger than the TD05, if that helps.

BTW, the compressor wheel on this turbo is also different than the older T-25s. This I learned the hard way, as part of that long story.

i got the same probs with clocking and drain fitting. I can clock it but when i loosen the bolts to clock it the center is less than ideal for good feed and drainage.

bump this biiiatch!

Maybe if you could tell us where you bought them, that might help a great deal as well.

I sent an email off to XRP as instructed earlier in this post. Hopefully I will find out the correct drain fitting and can share with everyone.
