Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
I'm looking into replacing my exhaust manifold studs with a new kit. I came across a comment from king Motorsport where the guy stated that there kit snapped on him 3 times. Does anyone know of a reliable kit or should I stick with stock?
Incase some of you may not know, I'm turbo charged.

I'm a HUGE fan of the My Honda Habit kit. Reasonably priced, good hardware, and easy to install. Downstar Inc. also has a "dress-up" kit that replaces the studs with quality bolts, but you'd have to contact them about fitment for thicker-than-stock flanges.

a US company on eBay sells a really nice stainless steel, 12pt nut extended exhaust manifold stud kit as well as an intake manifold kit and oil pan stud kit.
they're super affordable

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
I've always just used OEM studs with the OEM (locking) nuts! Running a top-mount aswell. Never had any break or come loose. Not sure why so many people have issues.
I torque mine to spec and forget about it.

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
As for manifold I'm running a Ramhorn and I've had no issues with oem. But I'm in the process of building my motor and I'm broken from using my old studs off my old head or getting new. As for my Honda habit, the description doesn't state anything about the use if there studs on a exhaust manifold.

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
I'll try and look up the links for his various kits and his store.
the nice part is the studs are longer than OEM and they are an ARP style stud that positively locates the stud in the hole. the extended studs don't really work with cast manifolds due to the design but I think he offers a standard length kit as well for those that are interested.
I really like his oil pan stud kit.. no more messing with getting bolts through the gasket and hondabond and the studs evenly distribute clamping force across the gasket, no more clamping differences between bolts and studs that cause the gasket to deform and leak.

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
The guy on eBay doesn't exist/make them anymore. not even google can find this guy lol. He had nice stuff as well.
he also had a throttle body stud kit which I think everyone should have, the extended studs were perfect for thick flange aftermarket throttle bodies and the studs held the gasket in perfect alignment. I'm probably going to produce a few sets of these and sell them to people or friends. also since I'm using an insulating throttle body gasket it's perfect

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
However I've heard nothing but good things about the myHondaHabit studs and gaskets. I fully plan on running every stud kit they offer.
all studs are grade 12.9 hardened steel and the nuts are 6 point grade 10 hardened steel with serrated locking surfaces. Basically it means they are indestructible, you could drive your car off a cliff, flip it over, set it on fire, blow it up, and these studs will still survive lol. they also feature an internal hex for an allen key whichs makes installation and removal a breeze

Extended fuel rail stud kit. these are perfect for people with aftermarket rails and any height injector, whether short, OEM, or tall. no more having to struggle with OEM studs when using aftermarket rails which typically have thicker mounting ears and those using tall injectors where the OEM studs might not be long enough to engage the nut. also an affordable alternative if you've lost or damaged an OEM stud. extended intake/exhaust manifold stud kit. good for anyone using a turbo manifold with a thick flange or in combination with a Mr.Gasket copper exhaust gasket
(i highly recommend these.. indestructible and infinitely reusable. the soft copper deforms to seal any imperfection in mating surfaces. I've been using the same copper gasket on my rwd SR20DET for years with no issues and at 20-30 bucks a piece it's a deal)
also good for people with aftermarket intake manifolds and those using insulating head gaskets.
the title doesn't say exhaust but in the description it states it can be used on both sides.

Oil pan stud kit. these come in 35mm (oem) and 50mm. perfect for insuring even clamping force on the oil pan gasket, reducing the chance of it deforming and leaking. also makes pan install easier as the studs keep the gasket in place, no more fighting to get bolts through the pan which could tear it.
http://myhondahabit.com/index.php/my...-stud-kit.html
Also their oil pan gasket is awesome. They use a nice, thick laser cut composite gasket that won't deform, leak, or degrade with exposure to oil and repeated heat cycles. I think we can all agree the OEM nitrile gasket sucks because it's so fragile and at some point they all end up leaking, even with HondaBond. their gasket comes with their 35mm stud kit but I'm sure if you asked they would give you the 50mm studs if you wanted.

maybe I can see if he will make a throttle body stud kit. but like I said, a lot of friends use their parts and even like said above, great parts. they aren't a cosmetic dress up item like some companies bolts. they are designed to clamp and withstand extreme heat. the nice thing is every stud has serrated lock nuts,so once they are torqued they shouldn't back off. I always safety wire any fastener holding something important on anyways.

There's your "Extended Intake Manifold Stud Kit", and you get 90 extra nylock nuts. All for $10 cheaper. lol
All most of these places do is buy the hardware from Mcmaster and then jack the price up...

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
Nylon lock nuts cannot be used on the exhaust side. they simply cannot stand up to the heat and the nylon insert ultimately ends up melting.

Now I'm worried if this kit will fit my Ramhorn manifold. My stock fit fine but just want something different.

Those would work well, and will take the heat, and they are very reasonably priced.

Notice I said "intake" manifold stud kit. Mcmaster also sells the "stock-style" locking nuts for the exhaust side, but they are crazy expensive (~$1.50 each). http://www.mcmaster.com/#93795a230/=rq6qn3 Those would work well, and will take the heat, and they are very reasonably priced.

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
no reason to have arp studs for something as simple as an intake or exhaust manifold. doesn't require a lot of clamping force.
unless you are building a track car where the studs will see repetitive torque cycles from parts being removed and reinstalled or just have money to burn.

Re: Exhaust manifold stud replacement kit
i still have the oem hardware minus one nut that i some how lost. ill just replace the nut with a new one from the dealer, no big deal. part of me wanted to get something new for my exhaust side even though i really dont need it but want it.
the arp is really nice but way to pricey for my taste because this car isnt a drag queen. anymore input is great because itll give me and others options. i still havent made my final decision because im going to order some of the final pieces this week.
