So I currently have a EF sedan with a forward facing turbo manifold and a Holset HX35. I've been thinking about switching over to a top mount manifold, but some people have told me I won't have enough clearance with my hood.

Is this true?

Also if this is the case, would I have the same issues with a DA integra? since I plan on swapping my whole setup into one of those next.

Any info is appreciated, Thanks.

With an SiR hood and a one off manifold you could clear the hood. I dont think any off the shelf production manifolds do clear in a crx, an hx35 isnt the slimmest of turbos either

It would be a very very tight fit and would take a custom manifold as not even standard manifolds will fit an ef, hence the manifolds that you see that are tailor made to fit an ef chassis. You'll more than likely have to trim the upper core support considerably and running a proper intake and/or filter is going to be almost impossible given that the headlight is in the way.

very tight fit for sure.
and it would have to be custom manifold to your turbo to assure there's not hook clearance issue.

for that reason, I went with ff manifold since both would of have to be custom anyways.

I have a boostworks ef specific topmount. Hope it clears considering it's made for that chasis

Well you have to remember that Holsets are larger than the typical Garrett style turbo that the manifold was designed around.

Both of the housings are larger. The turbine housing centerline is further from the turbine flange than Garrett meaning the turbo will sit further in or out depending on orientation. With a drivers side top mount install it would sit closer to the motor but also higher up vertically on the manifold. Also the turbo is physically slightly longer from the end of the compressor inlet to the end of the turbine exit.

Sitting closer to the block is a good thing since it means it's not as close to the core support and headlight but it could cause potential hood clearance issues. Sitting closer to the block means power steering is out but I don't think you need it in a lightweight ef chassis. It could also cause clearance issues between the head and compressor cover depending on how the cover is clocked, either straight down for a typical intercooler or towards the front of the car for a backdoor type. I've seen a lot of ef owners clock the cover with the outlet facing up but that obviously would never work. This is because the Holset cover is larger in almost every aspect compared to a comparable Garrett cover.
