but i have to buy 4 msd coils or something of the like which are too expensive. i like using coil on plug becuase i get the coils from honda for almost nothing. not to mention the wasted spark setup takes up too much space underhood and takes more wiring and there is more crap that can break.</TD></TR></TABLE>
you can run the cbr coils. there real cheap on ebay. I just brought another set(4) for $39.99 plug shipping. the wire harness was an extra $10

Re: Detailed write up.... HOW TO DO A COP CONVERSION (D-tuned)
This might be a little off topic, but i figured someone here would know.
For the 1000 box that needs to sent to aem to be modified to work with the hall effect sensor, do we need the box to accept both the crank and cam angle inputs? Im asking this because i called and thats what the tech asked me, any help would be appreciated thanks.

Re: Detailed write up.... HOW TO DO A COP CONVERSION (D-tuned)
Since cbr coils are the new fad..i went ahead and purchased some from a 2001 954rr with harness on ebay 35.99 plus 10.00 shipping to try it out. http://i5.ebayimg.com/03/i/04/bd/b5/92_1.JPG ...First will these work...2nd since I have an aem1000 unit with a obd2>obd1 conversion harness on my car...does this take the direct fire option away from me?...I think I cant use direct fire...but anyways all I need now is the aemc2di unit, wire it up, and configure settings in aem correct?

the honda coils will work on the h22, you have to grind some of the valve cover off and mod the connector some.
as for the wasted/sequential spark, with a cdi and proper coils charge time dosnt matter, thats the point of a cdi. if you have a 30-1000 thats the only way you can do it... dosnt matter though. also, if you run wasted spark make sure to wire the coils in series, not parallel.

cbr coils only fit b-series VTEC heads. h22 head is the same height as an ls head, this means you could use the cbr coils but they will stick out approx 1/4 inch. i know on aempower they were talking about a coil that truely fits ls and h22 motors without modification, or sticking out. i think we should start to record measures from bottem of taper seal on the top of the plug to the bottem. just to make it easier to find cop coils.
edit: check aempower, but k-series might fit h22 applications.

h22 heads require a LONGer coil, not a shorter one. the cbr coils are the longest coil of that style on the market, there are many many options for shorter coils, suzuki, yamaha, even seadoo 4 stroke jet ski's have the same denso coil, but its alot shorter. (thats what i use on dsm's)
on the h22 you have to grind the ring that the spark plug boot normally seals around off, then cut the bottom of the connector for it to get the extra hair for it to go all the way down.

i have a question.
which sparkplugs are supposed to be used with the CDI setup? where can we get them and cost? i belive it says to use a resistor type?

Re: Detailed write up.... HOW TO DO A COP CONVERSION (TrueNorthStar)
the only plug that works is the denso iridum with the motorcycle coils.
here in a week or so i will have a bunch of modified NGK plugs for sale specificly for use w/the cop setup at about 1/2 the cost of the densos

I was running some bosch platnium (sp?) plugs that Mike Laskey gave me, they fit and work fine, but they were a little cold for my setup. I had the IK24's sitting in a box and threw those in.

Talk is cheap where are the specifications on these?

One thing I do know about Tony Palo is he doesn't try to pawn off junk on people, he is a PERFECTIONIST and only wants TOP QUALITY parts in his builds!

I run bosh plugs for a 00 VW GTI. I've been running them for over a year and never had a problem. the part number is 4202. they are heat range 8. they're chep too

wow great thread. what are people looking at as far as prices for a complete cop conversion? for direct spark not wasted spark.

How about for a Dseries ? Will the CBR coils work or will I have to try something esle ? 4 SS coils ?
Well, good thread in all. I do searches on these topic for new info every so often and finally a full tech thread. That is awsome.
Good day,

Re: Detailed write up.... HOW TO DO A COP CONVERSION (egturbohatchback)
Awesome thread. Bought my coils, have my AEM, just neede to get the CDi and I'll be on my way. By the way, where can I get a blank (no holes) distributor cap. I would like to make it a little cleaner in appearence.
