Completely rebuilt D16A1/ZC engine. It's running really good. However, if I'm running it longer than say 20 mins, oil starts to appear. It's just enough to be a nuisance.
My first thought was the headgasket, so I pulled the cams out and retorqued the head studs (80 ft-lb using ARP lube). The engine had been heat cycled 8 times when I did this, so I figured it was time anyway.
Here are the pics....what do you think?
I torqued the pan gasket down to 9 ft-lb per the manual, but even that felt kinda tight.
Thanks,
Sonny

Yes too much honda bond!
You only need it on the 4 corners, and torque to specs.
I put too much honda bond once, and over torqued a lil too much, leaked like a siv.
Pulled it all off, cleaned it up and reinstalled, no more leaks.
Not to say thats your problem, but its a start.

Re: (psi420)
take the pan off, scape all that poop off then put a small dab on the sharp corners. away you go.
ther also is a small chance the crankshaft oil seal is dying too. you might wanna check it while you're down there

Check the oil pan gasket, sometimes it likes to move around when you install it and won't seal. May even be the oil pump seal since since you have oil right there on the timing cover.

Good info, guys. Thanks. The oil pump is brand new, so I don't think the front main seal is leaking (it better not be! ). Are you guys using 9 ft-lb like the Helms recommends? The gasket shouldn't get squished and distorted, should it?

oooh that happened to me aswell. Don't know about the dseries but on the bseries oil pan gasket there are 2 washers embedded in the gasket itself located near the tranny side, yours might be on the opposite side. Mine somehow came off the gasket and got stuck on the stud. So when i tightened it, installed the new gasket, the washers stacked up and it would never seal correctly. I thought it was the main seal, oil pan and all kinds of problems until I took it off and saw the washers, doh!

Don't even use a torque wrench on it. Mine is actually a little less than 8.7 ft-lbs. You have to eyeball it. If the gasket bulges, you have too much torque. And on the hondabond, just a real thin layer will do.

You're a big fan of those cam gears for some reason, Kyle.
I ordered a new pan gasket. I'll only put Hondbond at the 4 "humps" for the rear main seal and oil pump are.
Damn, I hate rubber gaskets.

UPDATE
I found the leak. Don't you hate it when you request a part and they send you the wrong one? I have an 87 Integra block and asked for an 87 Integra pump. I didn't get an 87 Integra pump.
This is the pump (88-89 Integra) right after removing it from the block. As you can see, the Hondabond didn't even compress around the upper edge.
Comparing the 2 pumps, you can see why the 88-89 pump didn't seal correctly. Carland Acura owned up to their mistake and they are overnighting me the correct pump at no cost.
