Icon2 D16z6 turbo build 400hp bound

I am trying to build a good turbo kit for my d16z6 and I was wondering what parts should I get right now I have a d15b camshaft, adjustable cam gear, Dynotune dry nitrous kit, b&m fuel pressure regulator and gauge, walbro 255lph pump, 440cc Prescion injectors, msd cap and blaster 2 coil, p28 tuned on cromepro for e85 also intake, header, exhaust right now at 142whp I was wondering what I will need to do to build a 400hp sohc. Is this a good list for the turbo build: ebay turbo piping front mount and blow off valve, vitara pistons and eagle h beam connecting rods, king bearings, arp connecting rod bolts and arp head stud bolts, ngk spark plug wires with 2 degree colder spark plugs gaped .020, golden eagle head gasket, emusa wastegate, crome pro with datalogging cable and oxygen sensor, ebay t3t4 hybrid turbo and a tune too also lifetime warranty axels from autozone and competion flywheel and clutch ebay catch can and ebay oil lines and oil block pickup line too. 3 inch piping and high flow catyltic converter also.

d15b cams are the same for the most part, just the timing is different, lobes are the same,
so its not needed, use the stock d16z6 cam.

440cc won't get you to 400whp. you need 650's or bigger

the ebay turbo is more than likely a 44 trim, not a 57 like they say they are. It will be stuggling to get 400. measure the wheels to find out what it really is.

ebay oil lines are for the most part junk, they have a smaller I.D. than they should, and can leak / break. I don't suggest using one.

as said before, look for a real garrett/precision/turbonetics with enough flow to get you to 400, ie a t3/t4 57 trim or bigger. you will need 650+cc injectors. pick up an oil line feed and return kit from steathmode perfromance. you can get away with ebay, piping and intercooler, and BOV i suppose too, but dont skimp on the waste gate, get a tial/turbonetics/turbosmart etc.

If you are still interested, when i get a chance at home, i can post a lis of everything i bought for my 400 hp build, right now im limited to 275-300 crank hp due to the injectors, but everything else i bought for the first stage of my build is good for 400. the next stage is head upgrades and new mainfolds, and injectors.

depends on weather u buy used or new, for my budget build my new t3/t4 57 trim .63 a/r cost 575. used u can get name brands for 300+. As far as size, im not sure if a t3 with say a super 60 wheel on it will hit 400, so most likely at t3/t4... maybe 50 trim, but possiblely larger for a max of 400.

ssautocrome and xspower are the 2 common ebay seller, and if they are selling a 16g its probably not a real one.

if you want an inexpensive turbo, look for turbos off of old evos, or DSM's if you can find a good condition/rebuilt one you should be all set. even if you get a big oem turbo like a big 16g im not sure if it will take you all the way to 400 but it will get you close. look around on the forums, usually you will find better condition and better deals on turbos.

This is my setup:

95 civic ex coupe
D16z6
Eagle rods
vitara pistons
oem bearings, oil pump(ported by me), water pump, head gasket and timing belt
new seals
DSM 450cc injectors and resistor box
Stock head for now

Garrett T3/T40e 57 trim .63 a/r
Steathmode performance oil feed and return
Turbonetics Deltagate
Turbo XS MBC (greddy EBC waiting to go in)
Ebay cast iron manifold (short ram style) (temporary)
2.5inch ebay intercooler and piping
ebay vacuum manifold
Ebay gauges and pod (af converted to wideband/oil/boost)
2.5 inch downpipe
3inch resonated exhaust to turbo style muffler

EX trans with new carbon coated syncros, new bearings, and seals
OBX LSD
Action Clutch 2MS

tuned by me on crome pro, 15psi, jsut dyneoed 251 whp.

an ebay 57trim (yes they are 57trims not 44 or whatever was posted above) will get you to 400 NO PROBLEM. there are LOTS of people out there that have done it...i like to call it the "Cookie Cutter Vitara Setup" eagles, vitaras, arp studs, ebay 57trim, cast manifold, 750cc injectors (1k's if your going e85) walbro, tune, and your set. 25psi and you will be there. this exact setup has been duplicated over, and over, and over again.

Many of the ebay "57trim" turbo have tuned out to be 44trims, some are smaller. You/others might have gotten lucky to get a actual 57 trim, but there have been many cases where the turbo was smaller than advertised. Most people who buy egay turbo don't now enough about them to take them apart and measure the wheels. They just assume.

I would never suggest someone buy a china turbo, some last a few thousand miles, but most die within a few weeks/months. I would look in the classifieds for a used name brand.
usually you can find a decent used garrett for ~3-400

even at that , you could find a local shop that does diesel turbos or such, sell you a turbo set to your specs or the specs you want for under 500 bucks with warranty. For sure you could rebuild the block have a GOOD turbo set up for under 3 grand now the question is will your transmission tires and brakes handle it? Your only as strong as the weakest link. Dont boost just to boost, if you cheap out now youll never enjoy the car save up. Either way i admire the d16 as THE budget honda and would throw it into a gutted crx and autox it but its only 1.6 liters.

Just buy my bw 57 trim and you should be set. But you'll need a t3/t4 50 trim or bigger to hit the 400 HP.

Default Re: D16z6 turbo build 400hp bound

your 1500 budget is a lil small, here is where i see you money going:

400 clutch to handle 400 hp (action 2ms etc)
300 rods
220 OEM bearings
150 vitara's
150 3 ebay gauges and pod
100 ebay cast manifold
100 ebay intercooler
100 ebay piping kit
100 dsm 450's
100 used name brand WG
100 ARP head studs
45 2.5 bar map sensor
40 ebay BOV
20 resistor box

Thats all the major things you need to do this assuming you already have an engine, and that you are doing all the measuring and assembly work your self. it doesn't include things you would want to replace like HG, water pump, oil pump and other misc gaskets.

so even before you add in the cost of a turbo and a tune you are at 2000+ and that is assuming you use 450 cc injectors for now until you can afford bigger, for bigger injectors add another 200 or so.

so even if you cheap out on an ebay turbo (lets say you happen to get one that is actually a 57 trim, and last more than a month) you are still gonna be close to 2300 dollars, and add in another 500 for a tune from a reputable crome tuner and you are sitting at 2700.

Dont skimp out its just not gonna work, save another 1000 bux or so, and start piecing together some parts, but be ready to throw more money in because its a heavily modded honda and it will nickle and dime you...

you can lurk the FS section, and pick up on the good deals when they come up, and you will be able to save some money, but don't expect to be able to buy everything one day, get it the next week and then slap it on. i pieced together my parts piece by piece over a period of 6 or 7 months before i was ready to swap it all in.

sorry if i discouraged you from doing this, but 400 is a lofty goal for someone who is just getting into the turbo game. Its alot of work and alot of research, read up on it and eventyally you will get it. I know thats what I had to do.
