D16 Turbo Build, HELP me on my first build please
Hey, im building a d16 with turbo and have a few questions (ive done research and this is just for any suggestions or help)
now as for the background infromation.
its a 1998 civic lx 4dr.
it comes with a d16 (really slow single cam with no vtec)
i have exhaust headers intake, but have been dying for vtec and boost.
i was going to go k24/k20 but the look on peoples faces when they find out you whupped them with a single cam... PRICELESS! lol but my frriend was building a d16 for boost and ended up getting a k20 for dirt cheap, now he said hes gonna sell me some parts already built.
d16 block with vitara pistons
stock rods (should i change them to eagle?)(is that neccessary?
y8 vtec head ported and polished with retainers and springs.
stage 4 aem cam and aem cam gear
hes selling me all that for 750 (good buy?)
now as for the rest of the build
racing timing belt- 50
individual throttle body ported and polished- 300
72 mm throttle body -100 (should i get a throttle body spacer?)
1000cc injectors and aem fuel rail- 560
high compression 3 layer gasket- 127
arp head stud kit- 112
complete boost kit- 750(everything from dp to wg to bov to turbo to fmi etc.)
water menthol injection system-358
oil pump- ive heard i should get a ported and shimmed oil pump?
confuesd about what that is
walbro 255 fuel pump-115
msd blaster distributor kit-90
speed factory 4 bar map sensor- 90
turbo timer- 30
electronic boost controller-138
i have a virgen p28 and harness- 150
next question, ive heard good things about hondata (good choice or not?)
any questions comments advice tips or things i should revise are very welcome, this is my first build so please if im missing something please let me know so i can get that part im also thinking about an ex transmission 96-00 good choice?

also he told me that with the stock rods and vitara pistons that i should be able to hit 15 psi with no problem or stress on the engine, does that sound about right? or if i get eagle rods would i be able to hit 20-25 psi with no problems ( i beleive its a t3/t4 but dont know what trim)

wtf???? stock D16 rods are the weakest link. so no 15psi is a no no. also 15psi means nothing as 15psi from a gt28r and 15psi from a gt30r are two totally different things. you MUST swap rods when building for high boost. so goodluck with the block knotching

The eBay t3/t4 you will be using is good for no more than about 15 psi, that is unless you want it to blow up in extremely short order. They are cheap for a reason after all. Don't listen to this friend of yours, what your engine can handle is a given hp number, not amount of psi. 8 psi on a baby turbo is not the same as 8psi on a precision 6262. Also, stock rods are good for no more than about 200hp, assuming you want it to last any reasonable amount of time. so NO, stock rods will not be fine with 15 psi, even if it's on the smallest of turbos. At the very least get Eagle rods which are cheap as cheap can be, as far as aftermarket rods go,

Stock rods! You know the RODS are the first thing to break? Any name brands in this kit or is it an Ebay special? What size turbo are we even talking about? Better make sure!!!

One thing i can tell by the items you have listed is you have a **** TON of reading to do yet before you think about purchasing anything. None of us woke up with this knowledge one day, you just have to research and learn.

and no its not an ebay kit but dont know the name
also im familiar with you from another build i followed (which is what i based my build off of. it was "the neverending ek build" where he built a D16 for boost honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2974744

I mean you are building a boosted car with Ebay parts and stock rods. Fail. The ITBs don't make it seem like you have a full grasp on what it takes to boost a car.

Post #8 did a pretty good job of that.
I would take a look at one of the Go-Autoworks kits and base your turbo build off of that. Ebay parts are like playing Russian Roulette with your engine.

Let's put it this way. A good turbocharger ALONE can set you back for more than that whole Ebay kit. Now some people have had luck running them without issues but the ones that have not have had BAD luck.

Garrett STYLE or a real Garrett turbo? Those aren't really cheap so he's either crazy or hard up for money.
Also, I didn't mention your meth kit. If it's a daily then why?
