Default D15 turbo

Hey H-T I Have a very slow D15b7 and I want to get something with a little more pep, now its either a B-series swap or turbo, but if I go turbo I don't want to rebuild the motor it would be just stock, what build should I go for if I do turbo and how many pounds would the stock motor handle with stock internals?

8 psi should be safe, not an ounce more, D series internal weeknesses are there very thin rods & there're good for about 200whp, in some special cases 220whp, but it won't last long....................but i'm baffled as to why you don't want atleast a built motor, you could source parts from various places & have a very reliable budget build

thanks for the info, I am leaning more towards the turbo cause I have done swaps before and never done a turbo build before so thinking it will be an interesting project. Now what turbo setup(size of turbo) would be best?

Well since your not gonna go with a built motor! i'll say use the Garret T28(SR20DET)
But plz Before you go bolting on a turbocharger, bet sure to do a compression test, install new water pump, get rid of all those old belts & a new headgasket

Seriously why not a built motor??

BTW 8psi from T28 won't get you to 200whp

170whp or in that vicinity would be a more realistic whp figure

love your name... it is apt... no offense...

however;

psi is irrelevant... 8psi on a t25 is much different than a gt40

do a compression test before you boost it... you want to make sure your motor is healthy.... if so, at least slap some head studs in there ...

what's your budget?? Your goals?

You may not have stellar peak HP, but you will have torque.

A 140whp stock swap will have ~100lb/ft of torque at the wheels. A 150whp boosted D will have ~130-140lb/ft of torque at the wheels. Hell, a stock d16z6 has more torque before 5500 than a stock b16, so a boosted d15 will be more than enough.

Just be aware that if you want reliability, a swap is better for a n00b. Only someone who has experience fixing cars & boosting cars (not just buying & installing parts) will benifit more from a rhmt setup on a d-series than with a stock b-series.

None taken, i'm a n00b as well but my comments were from personal experience, i too had a boosted JDM D15B! my suggestions were on the fact that the OP showed no indication that he was interested on having a built motor!

psi is irrelevant... 8psi on a t25 is much different than a gt40
because i referred to it didn't mean it was, i'm aware that whats of greater value is "Air Flow(CFM)

You also forgot to mention to the OP, that with a gt40, he suffer with LAG low down in his RPM.....................but on the other hand a T25 or T28, will give him boost almost instantaneously, but the main is dis-avantage, is your turbocharger(T25/T28) will "run out of breath" higher in his RPM range

If your gonna do something..Make it worth doing and dont waste money.

a d15 stock internals boosted is NOT gonna make you happy or last long.

You can get a B18b swap for around $500-700 and they handle more boost stock. Plus can put you in the 250Whp range instead of 170whp.
