head and block compression combo's and compression

These are only combinations of 1.6L heads and pistons in 1.6L blocks.
The Y8 and Z6 have the same thickness head gasket.
The A6,A1, and ZC also have the same thickness.
Using either OEM head gasket thicknesses make very little difference in compression. These are only combinations of 1.6L heads and pistons in 1.6L blocks. Using either OEM head gasket thicknesses make very little difference in compression. Be sure to check ANY combination you try!

All these comparisons are considering that all the stock clearances are retained and stock specs are used.

Now to explaain compression. So you say you heard that a 9.0:1 srp pison is a good rate for a d16 turbo right? But what does that really mean? Let me explain so you can have a better grip on the idea. When you piston stroke is at bottom dead center, let's say there is 90cc of compressed air in the cylinder(this is just an example figure). this is equal to the :1 in the figure. Now, when your motor starts compressing the air on the compression storke, once it reaches top dead center, all the air in the cylinder is now pressed into a volume area of 10cc(once again, just an example figure). you divide the 10cc of TDC into the 90cc of BDC, and there you go...9.0:1! hope this clears up the idea of compression rates on pistons. When you build a stroker motor, the piston's downward movement is increased, allowing more air to be pulled into the motor, which in turn allows for more air to be compressed, which would give you a higher compression rae than what the piston claims. Also, milling the head and decking the block change compression because it is making the "squish area" tighter. All said and done, you can create the compression rate ou want by trying different crank combinations, milling and decking clearences, and head gasket thicknesses. And there you have it, piston compression rates explained!
