So to get the DOHC motor I need to find an integra? Or a 99/00 SI model civic?
SOHC engines are great for turbing, but the D16Y8 (it will say the engine code just to the left of the header btw) is the one that I've heard has issues as far as oil flow. I'm sure someone else can clarify much better than I can.

The '99-'00 Civic Si models, besides normally being quite a bit more expensive, are also very high theft cars.

Most '92-'00 Civics are somewhat high theft rate anyway though. Those blue '99-'00 Civic Si coupes just scream steal me though.

D series are all SOHC. B series are all DOHC

Not 100% accurate, but the engines that prove this statement wrong are pretty uncommon.

For example, there are B15 engines in the Honda City that are SOHC.

I think you mean "ZC" and "non-vtec".

And yes, some ZC engines are DOHC.

So if I get this d motor car and just boost it till it eventually blows up does a B series motor just bolt in? Do you have to swap electronics or anything else?

B-series swaps into '88-'00 Civics can be very easy.

Use some mounts from the car the engine is going into, some that come with the donor engine. Get a wire harness made up. Swap the ECU. Figure out exhaust if needed (I know some can be weird, like my GSR uses a weird header length for a Civic body).

Some of the common DOHC swaps for '92-'00 Civics are: B16A, B18B, B18C1, B18C5, B20B, B20Z (NOT the B20A!)...

I've been into Hondas since 1996 when I was 16 and this thread confused the hell outta me lol.

My best recommendation to OP is to look for a 99-00 Honda Civic Si. Sounds like you like to tinker for yourself and it's really easy to do with Hondas (even moreso than with our V8s IMO). Soooooo easy to work on it yourself. You'll have lots of fun.

Those 99-00 SI models are hard to find. Only one on CL (and no picture) and none on ebay anywhere around me.

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/2206242820.html

Sounds like what I need to keep looking for.

Stop trying to find the actual chassis and car. Focus on getting the particular engine.

Check out hmotorsonline.com. Those have the actual engines you want. Trying to find the car whole is just (excuse the pun) having you spin your wheels.

I'd skip the idea of an Si and just get a clean car and then the engine you want. An Si could be more expensive to insure and is a high theft car. Not to mention they often go for more.

Just get a Civic with the power options you want and then put an engine in.

Buying an Si, you'll pay more because it's an Si. If you want rear disk and a B-series, swap them in!

Alright good call guys. I'll just find a clean looking car with the D series motor and turbo it initially. Good learning curve for me. Then when I'm ready just pick up a B series motor and get it in there.

Integras are like Civics. Look a little different. Dash was a little dated in the later models (should have been updated imo, even if the dash wasn't designed poorly). They're just a tiny bit bigger of a car. Same swaps available, but in the US the 3G Integra got a DOHC in every trim.

Oh, and Mustangs are awesome! Hopefully I'll soon have my Fox.

if it was me since your starting out with nothing i would buy a car with a swap already in it...b16 or b18c is the best...since your just tinkering any 88-00 chassie will do...but the 92-95 civic hatch back is the choice of most, easy to work on,plentyful, and light, lighter is faster...you can make 400 hp on either stock block reliably with just adding arp head studs...and that is useless but fun as hell on the streets...you can get a cast ebay log manifold, intercooler, piping, for cheap..just get quality couplers, clamps, bov, wastegate, and turbo...you should meet your budget...for drive train stock tranny, axles, will do just upgrade the clutch.these motors will make hells of power and take a beating if the maitance and tuning are up to par.just keep searching through old threads and get ideas...tuning hondata, ectune, neptune,or if your on a budget cromepro is a good one to...

My only big aversion to cars which are already swapped is that you can easily inherit someone else's problems. The OP seems knowledgeable enough to not get caught in something like that though, so perhaps a previously swapped car isn't out of the question.

I have been here since 07 doing research, I started buying parts for my LS/Vtec build in 09 and I'm at the place where I can start my build. I have learned you can get very good parts cheap if you spend time looking.

just pick any civic/integra with a b-series that's in fine condition, swapped or not!

in honda's getting a good chassis (rustfree) is more important then engines. engines swap easily and every B-series bolts straight in every 92-01 civic/integra.

if you're about the learning, get a good chassis!!! engines and turbo's are easy!

stock B-serie + turbo = reliable 300-400whp

to answer your question about getting a D block blowing it up just to get a B and if you would have to buy anything different... the turbo manifold flange will be different between the two... will have to buy a 2nd manifold for the B series...

OK thanks. I tried to go look at that green 99 I posted up above today on my lunch break but couldn't get away from work. Looks like I'll have to do it tomorrow. It's a D block I know but should be fun all the same till I put a B series motor in there later.

EDIT - I was actually hoping to find a good shape 92-95 so its even lighter but man those 00 and older civics are pretty hard to come by in Kansas City it seems.
