I tuned a Stock EM1 with a turbo kit that was having break up problems and we swapped in one of the ACCEL coils without changing anything else and it went away. The stock coil was well within spec too when tested with a DMM (not that it means much). Definitely worth a shot rather than a big ignition upgrade right off the bat.

Mounting my Summit box in my daily and found that the thing will fit in the dash behind the radio! I just need to make brackets. However I'm wondering if the deck may cause too much electrical noise.. What do you guys think?

Awesome, got your pm. Thanks man.

Definitely a good idea. I'm wondering if the copper "tape" that's used inside of guitars to take out rf noise would work if I covered the box with it. Do you think the box would overheat having the case coated like that?

If so, I'll just fab a copper plate that bolts over top of the box very loosely that way it can still breath.

Turbols u said u heard of some guys having issues with the summit boxes, what kind of issue? Haven't really driven my car much(60miles including tune) n it's starting to miss during partial throttle. I believe it's the box either going bad or mayb it's been getting wet. Any ideas?!

I am suspecting an issue with mine. Just hooked it up and no spark. Light comes on for a split second with the key yet does not blink while cranking. Does yours blink while cranking? I have 5v on a21 to the black box.

Yeah your box is going bad. I'm officially going to tell everyone to not get the summit boxes. This is now starting to be a recurring issue to often.

Called Summit and they're sending another box however I'm thinking about calling back and telling them to just send me the Mallory. Their 6a without rev limiter is only 20 dollars more.

Yes please call them and upgrade to the Mallory 6a box. I get a funny feeling they keep sending out the defective units as new.

Well I got everything sorted out on my car finally. Had some hiccups but it's all good. On stock ignition I was running about .021 plug gaps @ 23-24psi which is in the ballpark of 400-450hp on my turbo/setup.

With the summit box/crane coil, I have gone as high as .030 so far and haven't had any issues yet at the same boost level. Partial throttle and idle quality are both much better too which is a big plus.

Yeah that's the results your looking for. Larger plug gaps smooth idle and increased low end

Yup. I would keep fiddling with it to see just how big a gap I can run but I have to take the head off next week so I haven't bothered.

I did mount my summit box underneath my passenger seat. Turned out good. Very minimal extra wiring in the bay. I used 2 sizes larger wire for all connections since I had to extend them 2-3 feet each. The summit box instructions say only 1 size larger is required but I wanted a bit of overkill.

What are some issues you guys having with the Summit box?

My car randomly turns off when im sitting at a red light but it turns back on, I wonder if it's related to the box or an alternator issue

The summit boxes either have low load break up or just don't work at all

Did you cut your cylinder select loops? It's hard to tell in the pic but it doesn't look like it. The blue/red loops both need to be cut in 4 cylinder applications.

Yep...states in the instructions which ones to cut. Both remain uncut for 8 cylinder applications, one gets cut for 6 cylinder applications(can't remember which), and both get cut for 4 cylinder applications.
