Best b-series boost camshafts??
Hear alot of different opinions and thought id ask hondatech what they thought was the best camshaft to run on my ls vtec... motor is fully built with gt35r turbo... I have crower stage 2 camshafts but i hear crower is only good for non vtec motors... i also heard blox b are too aggressive??
What is the best cams to run to make the most power?

Re: Best b-series boost camshafts??
really depends on your setup and goals.
There are quite a few people dipping into the 500 range with stock gsr cams. while others are using ITR/CTR cams and making good power as well.
I know of a local guy running skunk 2 pro 2 cams in his civic and he gained 50 or so hp with them (i think his civic makes about 750whp)
So really, it depends on what youre after.
imo, bang for the buck, you cant go wrong with ITR's and boost.

OEM CTR ITR cams with that setup will do just fnie, you might squeeze some more out of it with some skunk tuner tuner cams but oem reliability and driveability outweight that IMO

Re: Best b-series boost camshafts??
I am building for 700+ myself and I am running 01 ITR's. I researched and researched this very question and found that people are making 700-800whp on ITR cams. The advantage of say Skunk2 Pro 1's is that you will make the same power as the ITR's at less boost. However the idle of ITR's is stock which to me is a nice thing, I didn't want some choppy *** idle, i'd rather have that smooth oem idle, then just let all hell break loose once boost hits.
A good website to see what setups made what power is
www.evans-tuning.com
give it a look and see how many people are running OEM cams and making big power. Not sure what transmission you plan on running but I think id be more worried about that then camshafts. Good luck!

Re: Best b-series boost camshafts??
Only go after more WHP per PSI of boost if you are running into certain limitations, such as:
- turbo compressor falls out of efficiency range at higher PSI. GT35R will fall out of its sweet zone around 30-32 PSI up at 550+ WHP of flow.
- Fuel system limitations at high boost (ie: fuel pump maxing out)
- Intercooler running out of capacity (higher IAT's becoming an issue)
- Running close to octane limit at your certain power level
Or only go with cams if you decide to shift your powerband well past 9K RPM depending on your transmission setup. ITR/CTR cams can usually make power up until 9k RPM.
If your 550+ WHP goal does not fall into any of the above problems, then you can choose any OEM GSR/ITR/CTR cams and it will most likely achieve your power goal.
On the other hand, if you start running too big of a cam for your particular setup, you'll lose power everywhere, lose spool, plus all the bad things that come along with big cams; such as choppy idle, poor fuel economy, more stress on valve train and rockers, more parastic drag on the motor due to beefier valve train, etc...
OEM ITR/CTR cams will be the best choice for your goals.

Re: Best b-series boost camshafts??
My Setup:
b16 bottom end
JE 9:1 (81.5mm)
BCrower H Rods
ARP studs
ACL bearings
Golden Eagle block gaurd
b16 head
skunk2 pro springs & retainers
S2 pro valves
S2 pro cam gears
and Im running a SC61 topmount with goals lookin for the 450-500+ range. CFT recommended me to buy skunk2 tuner 3 cams so I did.
Ill let you know my results after they get here and CFT does a retune.
but they told me since I went with a Skunk2 valvetrain I should complete it with Skunk2 cams. Skunk2 turbo cams are for smaller applications and the pro series is for high hp. So thats somethin to think about. hell if I was you id give them a call, they helped me with questions I had throughout my whole build.
+1 to CFT

^^ You sure they didn't mean the tuner 1 cams for that power level? I thought tuner1s were recommended for sub 500 and then pro1s for anything 500+

Yeah I called back after talkin to em the first time when I was online ready to order and double checked. They told me (keep in mind they know there tuning my car) that theyd get the best results with the tuner 3s with my setup.

It's not about which cams can make what kind of power. You can make near 1000 WHP with ITR/GSR cams, depending on variables like exhaust pressures, turbo selection, compressor efficiency and the type of fuel used.
Just re-read my post, because what you've posted isn't really new information at all... Cam selection is not based on "power"...

Best b-series boost camshafts
thats what the OP asked I was giving an example as to say you dont need yo buy anything elaberant for cams.
further more it was to show there are alot more things to be done to make power other than switching out cams wich is not a magical fix or combination to gain alot of power.
there are alot of misconceptions floating around because there is alot of people out there that just listened to people talk all these years about whats right and whats wrong when in fact thye dont know.
a good short block/a nicely built head with stock cams will yeild great results
