Default b16a2 or ls/vtec

i have 99 civic si with a b16a2 and i was wondering should i get a ls block b18b(ls/vtec) or should i stay with what i have?
my plans: sleeves, turbo set up, 9:1 comp, good internals that can handle about 20+ psi of boost.

ive heard bad things aobut ls/vtec and good things too. lets say i get 83mm darton or ge sleeves on my b16a2 will this be just as good as a sleeved b18b ls/vtec? wanna have a 12 sec daily driver. i know how to tune a turbo motor but just dont know if ill miss out if i dont go with the ls/vtec or not?

Here are some questions..... What are your horsepower goals? What's the main purpose of the car? How often are you going to be visiting the drag strip? How many miles are you going to put on it a year?

Theres a HELL of a lot more than a wide open question like "what engine".

im planning on driving it like everyday, probly 12,000 miles a year. i dont know about the horsepower but i wanna run around 20 boost and just have a 12sec car that is reliable and i heard with the ls/vtec its not as reliable and all your getting is more torque from it than a b16a2 and if i sleeve my b16a2 to 84mm then i pretty much got me a 1.8 block and more reliable. i just dont understand why ls/vtec is liked so much if it gives people so much problems. ill be at the dragstrip at least every other weekend or so. i got the money to get a b18b block but ive heard i should just sleeve and bore my b16a2 and make that a 1.8 pretty much instead of going through the hassle of putting my head on a nonvtec block.

Why are you set on runing 20psi of boost? You should build a set-up to you power need/wants not to a specific boost setting.

my wants is a 2400 lb 99 civic si to be a daily driver in the 12's so im figuring it will take at least around 15 psi to do this and then if i sleeve it to 83mm bore ill have a 1.8 b16a2 pretty much i think but i dont wanna pass up the b18b block if its gonna be THAT much better.

My recommendation, for all its worth haha, swap the block for a resleeved GSR, spend the money on a Precision SC61 turbo, get a good turbo manifold (Full-Race, Lovefab SST), and you should be able to acheive 400whp in under 20psi, and thats definitely enough for 12's, even in your Si coupe.

i recommend that you do the ls/vtec. bseries motors, b16s and b18s have the same bore size 81, only the b20 has 84. it's the stroke of the two motors that makes the b18 have more torque, because it has a longer stroke. i would get a ls motor and sleeve it then bore it to 84. the b18 and b20 are basically the same motor with the exception that the b20 is 84mm bore.i recommend this becuase i have one and speaking from experience the b20vtec is way more fun to drive. i currently have approximatley 5,000 miles on my motor. no problems what so ever. who's to say that 60,000 miles later there won't be any problems, but i don't care.

This doesn't add up. Why do you want to run 20psi? You can run 12's on a stock b16 with 12psi and slicks. Determine what your goals are and go from there.
