Default 87mm rs sleeves (magnum)

How good are these sleeves on holding boost, how much hp can they hold? I am planning an all out race car with high compression boosted b18a1 ls vtec

@ that bore size, with boost, you're going to have problems with leaking.

87.MM on any type of sleeve is to thin in-between the cylinders.

Ok so running 87mm would cause them to crack in between the sleeves?

yes due to having no thickness between each wall i have always been told that 85mm is the most you want to push it to when boosted

The power difference between 84mm and 85mm isnt even going to be real noticable, keep the walls thick so you have a good surface for the headgasket to seal. Its also a good idea to oring it for a better seal if its going to be running stupid boost levels.

Past 84mm I believe that you'll have more power lost due to poor ring seal than is gained by increasing the bore. The sleeve starts to get real thin in between the cylinders and will deform under huge cylinder pressure.

I always wondwered this so why would anyone choose to bore a block to 84 unless they need to for a rebuild.I believe that the power gained in going bigger than the stock bore size really isnt worth the money it costs to have to get it sleeved again unless the car is a track car and money is no option.

Exactly, its better to start smaller bore and have room for rebuilds. the hp increase is minimal, unless building an all out monster drag car in which case money is expendable most likely so it doesnt matter to those folks. if i were to sleeve a block id start at 82mm and work my way up every 50k

Going 84mm or bigger is not bad in term of gains once you are pushing the high power envelope.

An 81.5mm GSR is 1.82L.. 84.5mm GSR is 1.955 L... Going by horsepower per L, well, it's pretty nice to see an increase of 44-45 WHP from the extra displacement with everything else being equal on a 600 WHP setup. This is a very rough power figure just by engine displacement alone and HP/L.

We already know that being a 1.95L will spool the turbo faster by quite a bit depending on the head setup. As long as the head and cam combo can keep up, it's just a more powerful engine regardless. It's just not wise if budget and rebuild-ability is a priority.

^^well said my friend.. couldnt agree more if your increasing size of your combustion chamber there more room fore air/fuel mix which equals more power and in my opinion with us 4 cylinders with small bores. i think boring and sleeving is the first step to major power in any build, boost, or na.

808 hatchs crx ran 8's with 83mm bore and stock gsr crank. just sayin. the power can be made without the extra displacement. although for a street car the bigger bore and stroke will make it alot funner to drive.
