Default $600 quote for catch can install. wtf?

So i upgraded from the s200 to the s300 recently and after driving around, i noticed i was losing oil from the breather hose and oil cap. This was boosted last summer and it randomly has started to do this. The tune was not changed in the ecu upgrade, just did it for the fan controls, etc. I take it back to the shop since i figured it was crankcase pressure building up and they say that they can install a catch can setup...for $600. I didnt quite catch the name of the system, but that seems absurd. Im only running 12 psi on the 15g greddy kit on a stock d16y8 (w/ headstuds) so i dont feel like i need to get a catch can setup that costs more than the turbo. They are obviously welding at least another bung to the crankcase, so i dont know if that is what is going to cost so much. I requested the quote be emailed to me, but they seemed really busy today and im not suprised they forgot.
Anyways, i currently have the pcv valve running to a baffled catch can vented to atmosphere with a filter. The breather hose nipple on the VC just has an egay filter on it. Is there a chance that the pcv valve is clogged or something? Im getting condensation in my catch can, but relatively little so does this mean its not working? I feel like any crankcase pressure build up should push through the black box and pcv valve and out the catch can? Isnt one bung enough for my current setup?
This leads me to another question about the whole catch can setup. Why do catch can kits come with a plug for the back of the block? I thought the whole point was to relieve the pressure in the crankcase before it blows through the rings and into the valve cover? Why do they just add bungs to the VC? Isnt that just promoting blow by since you are now pushing all the air out of the valve cover? But it sounds like it works, so im extremely confused.

I appreciate any help and yes, ive read the super crankcase vent thread but people seem to vent the B and D differently.

When they vent them through the valve cover, it is because it is the highest point on the engine, so less likely to see major oil flow, and normally there are already baffles on the underside of the valvecover. The area that the valvetrain is in above the combustion chamber sees the same crankcase pressure that the lower portion of the block does. There are oil drain back holes that return oil from the head to the block and pan. That also shares the crankcase pressure in the block with the head. If you can weld a bung behind the baffling inside a D series valve cover, it is for the best. Least amount of oil to the catch can that way. And they block off the black box because there is no shielding or baffling in front of it, and it pushes major amounts of oil to the can.

Does not sound too high of a price to me. Assuming that is for the can and the labor to install and wielding fittings onto the VC. Get an ENDYN or VMS Racing can and install yourself to save a bunch of $$$.

Thanks for the responses. So if i were to get the endyn or one of the other kits, it would solve my problem? But it still seems like its getting really high crank case pressure but thats normal because of the turbo right? I dont want to add all the vents only to be told that the high crankcase pressure itself was the problem and that venting it was only a bandaid.

you could consider a leak down test to see if the rings are on the old side and allowing
to much blow by

^^^^ If you have any reason the feel that the blow by is excessive do this. That said yes you should have a crank case vent can on even a mild boosted Honda motor. The stock PCV system is barely enough to handle a stock motor let alone a motor that is make 2-3 times the stock hp.
Be careful pushing the stock D series much more than you are. The stock rods are pencil tinny and ringlands fail. I really hope you have a good tune. I personally would have had the S300 retuned and also setup some of the great extras the S300 has.

Dont have a compressor or access to one, so i guess ill have the shop do one come Monday. I dont need a compression test done right, since that just ensures proper compressions? I had both comp and leak down done last summer before the turbo install, but obviously things could have changed by then.
I also had them technically "retune" on the s300, they were just able to take most of it from the s200 and added some of the features. My car was running a bit too hot so the fan controls were actually one of the main reasons i upgraded.
Thanks for all the help guys!
