First off, I just turned nineteen and i am a full time student, so don't expect to much out of me haha. All work is done by me.

Over the summer, I saw this black 1987 civic Si on Craigslist and i had to buy it. Ran fine for ... first 20minutes and it started to over heat blah blah. So i decided to do a Mid engine rwd swap, which i was interested in for a long time. It has been really slow due to my other car project, and now that i am going to school and working, there is really no time. I have not done much to it for awhile and i thought this thread will give me some motivation!! to continue the project. Also, comments to make this car a better one.

when i got it.

At first, i intended to use eg frame, and i did. However, i made bad measurements and center was off so i had to cut it back out. I dont know where all my pictures went.. but here is what i have for now.

This is after i took the eg frame out and made my own frame.

My other project.

Someday..

I will get more pictures. Currently i have a single cam mounted up and got all the engine mount figured out. Wiring is gonna suck... Have not choosen a motor to go in yet. H series or K series would make more sense, since it already has cable shifter. Price is the matter..

i'm just going to copy and paste it from another board, here's all the stages my teg went thru until this day, still some plans on it, i may even take it down to bare shell again and re-do the complete build just for the hell of it. been a member here for a while but i never posted the complete build. most of it was done about a year ago, it's been sitting in the garage since and only comes out on weekends/nicedays. anyways, enjoy!

i posted up a build thread about my motor but i've been meaning to post one of the entire build that my car has gone through since i got it. i picked it up when i was 16, its my first car and have been modding it since day 1.

here's how it started out, got it 100% stock, and added a 98+ type R lip and slammed it on stock shocks and pac mall coilovers, clear bumper lights and a magnaflow axle back muffler..lol

after that, my clutch went, so i decided to put in a type R clutch, a GSR lightened flywheel, greddy evo exhaust and a reactive 4-1 header. i thought it was the fastest shit out there...haha

i also added the wings west mugen replica lip, shaved the front bumper, wings west side skirts and got a set of GSR hammerheads. too bad i was too poor to get it painted properly, so a can of spray matched paint was up to bat.

got a good deal on a fiber images hood so i slapped that on

then i thought i would give auto-x a try, threw it around some cones. it was pretty fun.

it wasent' the best looking car on the block, but i loved it.

as luck would have it, i managed to scoop up another B18b motor for free. a friend of mine's uncle rebuilt stolen recovery cars and then sold them for profit, he had to change a clutch on a 4 door teg he got but instead bought a whole new motor for it. he asked me if i wanted the old motor and i picked it up in no time, and the next day i had it down to the bare block, cleaned up and ready for a re-build.

[img][/img]

and the tired old origional LS motor.

more on that later.

picked up some 96 SE rims that i painted black just as extra wheels.

around this time, i had just gotten a new job, so more money was coming in, and on the way back from quitting my shit job at blockbuster i get rear-ended by some chick driving a yaris.

so off to the body shop it goes! during this time i was still slowley building my motor.

luckey for me my uncle owns a body shop so i knew i could get a quality paint job, i opted to re-paint the whole car and since i was doing that, i shaved the side moldings, properly shaved the front bumper, shaved the hatch, trunk key hole, and antenna. got all the rust cut out and re-welded, new windshield, all the dents pulled/filled.

don't mind the optshitjdm sticker, the windshield was taken out shortly after lol

no more side molding!

no more rust also

x100000

shaved the hatch, also the trunk keyhole is being shaved too

this is the driver's side side molding holes welded shut

driver's side rust fixed

and one more shot for good measure

sorry no pics when it was in the booth, but here it is fresh out of paint!

all finished up, just waiting for the winshield guy to come by and install a new one, this one was pulled out and painted behind it, just put back into place so the guy can take it away.

to save on cost, my uncle just flat blacked the hood because i was going to put back on my CF hood anyway.

while the car was in the body shop, i decided to polish my wheels, they turned out great but were alot of work. i coulden't put busted up looking wheels on a freshly painted car!

slapped them on

Unfortunally, during any build, you will run into problem. at this point my problem were ****ing theives. a week before i was schedualed to go in to get my alarm installed, late one night i was with some friends eating at a restaurant. well **** heads decided it would be cool to steal my wings west lip, screwing up my bumper in the process. they also decided it would be fun to smash my bumper light.

then i got a new lip, a seibon cf lip. (that diden't last too long..lol)

honda-tech #1 yO!!!

i also did a bmw E46 HID retrofit.

so i needed to replace all my breaks, ball joints, rear calipers were going, so i decided to go JDM ITR 4x114.3. eric @ teknotik hooked me up with a mint conversion.

i also picked up a bride zeda 2 pro seat from smartass. he farted alot in it. the interior also got some love with black jdm itr carpet, amber cluster, gauge pod, and ubar sick racing pedals!

then winter came around and decided to focus on the motor build. we had one freak nice day in winter so engsr, wildout, and my brother (red 4 door) came by. pulled it out to snap some pics.

The motor.

ok so here's all the pics from the motor build.

started out with the torn down cleaned up bare motor: (don't make fun of my motor stand..LOL)

now origional plans were to build a high compression N/A LS motor, using topline usdm B16 pistons, 1mm over bore (almost a 1.9ltr) stock rods w/ARP rod bolts, and crower 404 or 403 cams.

so i sent the head off to grahm at canadian clinder head. there it got milled 20 thou, valve job,a bit of a port and fully cleaned of any carbon.

got the valves machined and buffed

cleaned out the oil pan

some cam gears that i ended up selling to sikkkkktegra

picked up a ITR manifold machined to fit the LS head

got the crank micropolished

and got the topline b16 pistons

and the crower 403 and one 404 intake cam

[img][/img]

Here's where the build took a little detour. one morning i woke up and decided that i might aswell go big or go home. so i decided to sell the topline pistons in favor of some forged CP pistons....you guys know what i was planning. they are 9:1 stock bore

then i got a top mount manifold made by weirtech

i then took the block back into canadian clinder head for grahm to do the block.

the pistons in their new home

at this point parts started rolling in.

turbonetics evolution wastegate

ebay intercooler

then the turbo! T3/T04E 54 trim .63 a/r

got a good deal on a set of SRR cam gears

some eagle rods

then with the help of wildout white GSR we started assembling the motor.

finally, with the help of Trenell, (thanks again bud!) and working till 5am last night, we got this bottom end together. the first attempt i managed to break a piston ring thanks to the shitty piston ring compressor sold at crappy tire (NEVER BUY THAT!!!). thankfully, gram at canadian clinder head had an extra one that he hooked me up with :yeah:

so i picked up a good ring compressor, and we finally gave these pistons and rods a new home. i plastigagued it twice, and every bearing was spot on. i also ended up using topline rod and main bearings. trenell is one good friend because without him i woulden't be able to put this thing together so thanks again brotha~!!!!!! :yeah:

i also got my downpipe in, i made it myself, did all the cuts and mocked it up then with the help of livinlow, he got his buddy to tig it up (thanks yO!) for the first time of me fabricating something, i think it came out pretty damn good. :willy: i took alot of pics, but i'll upload them tonite, but for now here's some....the olympic build continues :laugh1:

crank in:

"uhh...trenell, how do you do this again?"

trenell: "NOOB! gimmie that!"

all set and done :D :

and the downpipe

over night pars from jaPan:

assembled bottom end:

new splash pan, oil pickup installed, all new bolts

rear main seal installed w/new bolts:

put together the head, installed new valve seals, retainers, valve springs and keepers with the machined valves.

my oil feed setup, bought the sammish oil filter adapter and then connected the feed from there, the other two ports on the adapter are going to be used for the oil pressure and oil temp gagues.

feed line:

kit:

here's the return line that goes back into the oil pan:

this is probably one of the nicest peices i've gotten for this build, the greddy type-RS blow off valve (it's gonna be LOUAD)

also with the help of trenell, we got the bottom end all finished up, siliconed up the oil pump and rear main seal and serviced the oilpump too. it's pretty much ready to go!

my XTD 6 puck clutch came in:

also my RC eng. 750cc injectors too

if you look closely, there's 3 ports for fuel to come out of instead of one on the stock injector; pretty cool:

i also thought i'd buy the rest of the OEM parts, so i went buck again at acura. picked up:

-OEM timing belt,
-oil pan drain bolt
-all new oil pan bolts
-all new bolts for the oil pump
-new OEM fuel filter
-new OEM ignition rotor
-new OEM distributer cap
-new intake manifold bolts (all)
-new exhaust manifold bolts (all)

i just realized.......that i replaced every single nut/bolt on this motor :wtf:

well after being screwed over for a fuel rail, i got my hands on another AEM fuel ral thanks to member NixTeg, also member DC24me hooked up a SARD fuel pressure regulator. the motor transplant stars on the long weekend :willy:

also picked up a vaccume manifold with brass fitting kit from turbo smart, intercooler piping kit with couplers and T-bolt clamps, energy suspension motor mounts aswell:

~~Day 3~~
~~Sunday~~

diden't do too much, had to get some sleep and gave the neighbours some kind of quite on the long weekend:

getting the motor all prepped up:

decided to tackle the tranny clean up, here's it before:

pretty gross i know. so i sprayed it down with some simple green max, then wildoutwhitegsr sprayed it with some easy off oven cleaner..haha.

hooking up the power washer, this thing is really useful.:

after that i just sprayed it down with the power washer and left it alone for the rest of the night, it was pretty cold out. in the mean time, wildoutwhitegsr and engsr were working on lining up the cam gears and timing belt:

they got that done, then we went to KBBQ, got teH iTiS and called it a night.

~~Day 4 (today)~~
woke up early (yes that's right, i got up early :finger: ) and i wanted to get a good day's work in. so i down'd a can of redbull and went at it. i also put the suspension and fasenend the ball joints so that i can put the wheels back on and have the car as a rolling chassis. it was such a nice day out so i rolled it outside:

then i started with the tranny. all the grease was gone and it needed a nice coat of paint.

masking:

painting:

and here's how it turned out, it should match the motor nicely.

i also painted the tranny mount black, here's the final result:

next i turned my attention to the bay. i removed all of the ABS brake lines and damn were those a bitch to come out. i also took everything out that won't be going back in, so as it looks now is pretty much how it's going to stay, the only things really that are going in are the motor/trans, wiring harness for the motor and a civic 1/2 rad. :

the bay was pretty damn dirty. i then put all the electrical into bags, and tape'd them closed. then started to spray a bunch of simple green all around the bay:

time to break out the pressure washer again:

had to get all up in there..

annnddd...the after; the simple green and pressure washer worked like a charm. all the thick, years of grease, oil, sand came right off, the paint actually looked pretty damn good, but with spots of rust here and there i'm still going to paint the bay:

that took me the better part of the day:

due to a stripped rotor screw, i had to break off the old rotor to install the new rotor and dizzy cap, so that's ready to go and is on the new motor now:

then i buttoned up some little things onto the motor:

i then decieded to call it a day so i can relax a bit, got alot accomplished today, the motor will be in the car by the end of the week, just waiting on some last min parts but i coulden't resist seeing what this would look like :GrinDev: :

i got the bay sanded, primed and painted, here's how it looks, it's still wet:

and finally the new motor is going in tomorow morning:

i re-painted the bay, and shaved a couple of holes on the rad support, finally i dropped in the built LS motor with boost. some pics:

the other problem was that i was running on the stock fuel pump with an AEM fuel rail and RC 750cc injectors. i don't have a boost controller and the WG spring is an 8psi spring. well after 5000rpm, the stock fuel pump coulden't keep up; i have a walbro 255lph at home so i'm going to slap that in and head back to the dyno. but on 8psi, and only revving to 5000rpm, i made 205whp and 197tq. i'm going to grab a boost controller, put in the new fuel pump and be back on the dyno soon. btw it hit full boost at about 3800rpm.

here's some pics and two vids at the bottom.

my intercooler was kinda tiny so i decided to swap that one out for a bigger one.

Thanks to eric again, he hooked me up with a new set of wheels. 15 inch 4x114.3 advan RG's.

i managed to rub a hole in my downpipe, so i got a new one made by weirtech.

i took my car back to the dyno. i was hoping to tune on 15psi but looks like my turbo needs a re-build, so we kept it at 8psi; however now i can rev to 7000rpm! haha here's some pics, i gotta thank nick and eric at teknotic for all the help with the car, nick did an amazing job on tuning, and i have to thank all the people who have helped me with the car like xplicitef, wildoutwhitegsr, ITRboi, and a bunch of other people on this board so -THANKYOU.

and the result:

253hp and 206tq on 8psi - im more than happy with those results. i know people have put down alot more hp but the car is flippin fast as hell to me! and that's my night.

after that, i re-painted my front lip and added a replica mugen gen 2 wing. that's pretty much where it sits now.

These pic is a few days after I got it, I've had it since May 09'. It had a mid wing and someone decided to rip it off and it pulled the bolts through that held it on. Did the body work on it right after I got it.

My Civic Coupe SOHC Eaton M62 Supercharger project

After almost one year of gathering informations about forced induction on Honda SOHC engines, I decided to start my build - to tell the truth, there...

After almost one year of gathering informations about forced induction on Honda SOHC engines, I decided to start my build - to tell the truth, there are some parts still missing, but they will be ordered probably untill the end of the November.

Why I went with supercharger?

Hm, while I always enjoyed in turbo cars and have great respect for them, I also always secretly wanted to design & build custom supercharger setup for my daily driver...so when last year I bought my '92 Civic Coupe (with std D15B7 engine) I was immediately planning to do mini-me swap in combination with forced induction, but was deciding between turbo & supercharger and somehow SC prevailed.

So, I found locally second-hand D16Z2 engine, bought D16Z6 head, Eaton M62 from Ebay, and slowly started to gather all other bottom-end parts:

- Supertech 75.5 mm forged pistons,
- Eagle "H" beam rods
- Zex 59500 camshaft,
- Supertech blockguard,
- ARP headstuds,
- Cometic headgasket,
- AEM True-time adjustable cam sprocket,
- ACL Race rod & main bearings,
- gaskets, water pump & new oil pump.

For fuel & ignition management, I decide to go with Hondata S 300 installed in P28 ECU - as I have done quite a few Megasquirt installations in the past, I knew all the potential problems & complications with custom standalone EFI systems, so Hondata seemed like best solution.

One of the first big obstacles during start of this build was crankshaft - D16Z2 crank from engine that I bought last year was in very, very bad condition - all journals were way out of specs - I even started a thread about that:
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2501326

Old crankshaft:

Measuring clearances with plastigauge - all were larger then thinnest line on scale (> 0.076mm):

Example of 1st journal:

So I searched for D16 crank in good condition - but unfortunately I just couldn't find a good one...so, I decided to go different route: re-grinding worn crank to next oversize, nitriding crank and micropolishing it.

Before regrinding, I bought some dial & bore gauges and some plastigauge, to measure exact bearing clearances that I need.

Finished crankshaft (after machining & nitriding):

Also, I draw some AutoCAD clearance spec sheets, to make measuring a lot easier:

After reading a lot about bearing clearances on boosted SOHC's, I decide to go with slightly looser clearances: around 0.0015" on both rod end & main bearings.

Hey guys! It's been awhile since I've had any serious updates, so here goes...

My wife and I just got married about 6 months ago so up until then money has been kind of tight with saving for a wedding. So updates were slim and few...

So on with the car stuff! Along with moving into a house and finally having a garage I decided to do a full out build thread which will include paint, engine bay re-tuck(much more to get tucked!!), cosmetic work, and engine upgrades. As far as paint goes, I'm leaning towards champ white. After painting madpipr's car I fell in love with that color!!! his thread for pix of the champ white paint I sprayed: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php...hlight=Madpipr

On with the pix:

what I will be working with.

Hey guys, well now that I am on my 3rd EF I just realized that I have never put all my pictures or anything together into a build thread so I am...

Hey guys, well now that I am on my 3rd EF I just realized that I have never put all my pictures or anything together into a build thread so I am going to go through them, including the other cars I have had in the last 4 years. I'm currently 19 years old from Vancouver BC area if any locals recognize anything.

It all started in 2005, 15 at the time. I got a job cutting meat at a local grocery store and started saving away for a CRX with 1,000,000 hope and dreams of installing a B16 this, body kit that, and spent countless hours lurking internet auto forums. My plans of owning a CRX came short when I stumbled across a 88 Targa Supra Turbo for $1500. I didn't think to hard about it, but the thought of owning a turbo Supra exited me and I jumped the gun and bought this automatic piece of shit.

After getting it home (in freezing temps with no heat I may add) I found the heater blower motor was toast and the headgasket was blown.

The Supra was sold shortly after for $1750, thank god.

Anyways, so back on tracks of getting my sought after CRX. After about 6 months later I had saved up a few more paychecks and picked up this clean example of a 91 Si CRX for $3000 even just after my 16th birthday and getting my learners permit.

It had 160,000kms, stock A6 with intake, header and exhaust. It came with snowies and no side mirrors so first things first I got a set of mirrors and looked for some rims.

The body was damn near mint, only a spec of rust on the back hatch area but clean wheel wells. I found a set of 15inch bronze Heliums with 195/50/15 Toyo T1S.

Pretty clean stance on unknown lowering springs. Handled amazing with this combo. (compared to the SupraBoat)

Then came a set of JDM tails. I ended up ditching them soon after cuz I wasn't feeling the 88-89 style.

Right before I cut the fart can off I took this little clip, rice FTL.

I then managed to find an EF8 front clip on okay shape and the guy drove it over from Vancouver Island to my door for $600, I couldn't say no.

It didn't take long to install, for some magic reason the hood fit fine with stock t-bar. I'm still scratching my head on that one.

After realizing boost could be had for cheaper then a B16 swap at the time (and finding HomeMadeTurbo) I came across lots of DIY boost goodies.

Got a WRX intergooler, TE05 turbo off a Saab 900, MBC, DSM BOV, Chipped PM6, HKS turbo timer and 2 manifolds for $350. Most of this stuff aside the turbo and ECU ended up getting sold.

This turbo was a good size for a non-VTEC D16, very responsive with good midrange but started to loose it's balls in the top end. It was in great condition with no shaft play or leaking seals.

With the turbo parts coming in I sold off my exhaust and header and chopped up the intake I had into useless pieces that I never ended up using (doh!)

I ended up picking up a DRAG manifold and Deltagate and put a Odyssey battery in the storage compartment. I also picked up some strut bars.

I made this video in the snow because I was so stoaked to hook up the oil lines and wanted a sound clip open turbo.

I ended up ordering a FMIC kit off eGay with SSQ bov for $300 shipped.

This thing ended up fluttering at 7psi so I wouldn't recommend them to anyone running low boost. I ended up selling it for a Greddy RS replica.

Came across some Honda Access floor mats at a junkyard so I snatched them.

I ended up fabricating everything else up myself including a 3" downpipe (which is a artform in order to clear the massive cross member) and a 3" exhaust with Borla turbo muffler and 3" cat all in grade 11 metal class.

After the kit was all setup, I took it all off, did the rings, bearings, water pump, tbelt, valve seals and grind then finished er off with ARP head studs and a Z6 tri-metal head gasket.

I ended up getting the car tuned by my buddy Jerod who did an awesome job on turboEDIT with an AEM UEGO, my mileage INCREASED, and never ran lean or excessively rich. Ran a 14.6 with a horrible start at Mission Raceway. The car sat like this for a few months, I got my license right before it was tuned so I got myself in all sorts of trouble. I ended up racing my buddies EG coupe in the rain, slid down an overpass fishtailing and 360ing over a curb (taking a chunk of my pass front Hellium :( ) I learned my first good lesson and had to limp my car back to my high school with 3/4 of a wheel, no front bumper, crunched fender, cracked headlight, and my alignment was way out to lunch. Lesson ****ing learned...

It didn't take long before my parents to press me to get another (slower) car so I ended up parting off the turbo kit and put it back to mostly stock aside the SiR front. Here are the pics before I parted it out.

I ended up selling the car for $3300 with the mixmatched body panels and all.

Then I bought my current daily driver. A 98 Teg RS. Stock aside some nasty ass 17s, shift knob and sweet ass diamond plate floormats, cheeea.

Got bored and painted my valve cover chameleon green.

Around this time I put a Magnaflow axleback and AEM intake on it. I also put in some Tein coilovers and ditched the 17's for the steelies that came with the CRX as well as did a tune up.

Then I found a set of Centra Type C's in a buddies barn that he hooked me up for free.

They were black but I sprayed them over with gold after a while.

Being my daily I needed good sound so I put in some JBL components in the front (that molex plug is a BITCH) and a Panasonic DualDIN.

And a JL W0 12 in a ported box in the back.

Sometime after then I swapped the coilovers out to a buddy for his setup and $550. I also got a set of del Sol seats for $80 but sold them a few days later for $150

This is pretty much how the car sits today. The car is just so boring, I had a B20 block and ITR head but I managed to sell them when I was inbetween jobs. :( I really started to miss my old CRX and ended up picking up a 89 Civic CX with a blown headgasket for $350.

I fixed the head gasket, cleaned the interior and threw in some Si seats.
The car ended up failing AirCare and I found a bunch of rust in the rockers so I sold it for $1000.

Now being back at square 1 and still missing an EF and being stuck in a boring ass Integra all day, I used that G to buy my current project. It's a 90 Si in decent shape with a SOHC ZC. The paint is quite faded and there is some bubbling in the rear wheel wells but that will be cut out and new metal welded in and I am going to buy some paint supplies and try my hand out on some bodywork, a foreign language to me so far so we'll see how it goes.

Here's where we sit today. Me and the GF took most of the interior out to give it a good clean. I am also going to sound deaden the interior soon to get rid of road noises and rattles, the one thing I don't like about these older cars aside from rust.

A buddy of mine wrote off his turbo EG so he sold me a bunch of parts he had no use for. All of whats seen here for $60, woot! I'm gonna buy a D15B to build up as the ZC burns quite a bit of oil. But I might rebuild the ZC as well in the time being. Most of these parts should make their way into the EF soon I hope. I also have an EF sedan steering wheel that I think I'm gonna throw on after we clean the interior.

Well, as the turbo parts come in I will slowly update for ya guys but it's gonna be a slow build so don't expect frequent updates haha and thanks for all the info I've gotten from here and many nice pics. Later!

Well I'm not a total noob but I'm rather new to this kind of extensive work. I've had an EG hatch and a Del Sol over the last few years but this time I plan to do a full tear down and rebuild. Here's some pictures of my previous builds and here's some starters of the EK shell I just picked up....

First the EG

Then the Del Sol

Now for the new shell

Might be a bit of a slow build as I'm starting up College in January but we'll see how things go.
