Default Tuning without an emulator?

I was talking to my tuner today and he said he does not use an emulator to tune Hondas? Can you tune without an emulator? How does this work?

You can tune by only using an eprom burner & burn a new rom every run, this is a very old method of tuning. I don't know why anyone wouldn't tune in real time.

X2
If you guy doesn't have an emulator you might want to ask some more questions about him and verify his references

I have to agree. There is no reason to tune a honda without one. All the engine management systems support the emulator feature. It takes sooo much longer to tune the car by burning a chip every 10 seconds.

man, before I bought an emulator I tuned my car by burning chips, datalogging for a bit, then burning another chip.

It took me like 10+ hours of doing this to get my car tuned what I would consider somewhat decent. Then I bought an emulator (ostrich) and tuned my car again from scratch. It took me max 2 hours to get twice as good of a tune as the first time. I wouldn't dare think of tuning someone else's car without real-time programming....especially on a dyno, think of all the time (which equals money when on a dyno) wasted burning chips, opening ecus, etc etc.

i also used to tune without and emulator. it all started with uberdata 1.6 and a moates burn1 unit. took forever, annoying and cost me more money on the dyno cuz i couldnt update without having to take 5 min and reburn. i still do it for friends, but ive got a bunch of good tunes in my folder from old setups ive done so where i start off is usually already close and it saves tiime.

i use neptune for my cars and real time is 100% where its at, for ease and time constraints. what program were u going to get tuned with?
