overheating because not enough ignition timing?
hey guys,
question for the tuners here,
ave you ever had a boosted engine overheat because it dosnt have enough ignition timing?
something around 4-8 degrees less then mbt?
thanks

Re: overheating because not enough ignition timing?
i have seen egt go sky high due to extreme retarded timing on a few cars over the years. i would have to assume that with all that extra cylinder heat it could lead to higher coolant temp. 8 degrees less than mbt seems like a lot to me but then again its really only 6 degrees less since it seems common practice to pull back about 2 degrees once you find mbt...

Are you saying that because of the numbers he posted or just in general because you don't feel extreme retarded timing would cause increased ECT? I'm curious because I have seen the same as was said above, crazy high EGTs due to retarded timing and was also u see the assumption that such increased cyl temps could lead to increase in coolant temps, but if that isn't correct I would love to learn why so educate a brother! Re: overheating because not enough ignition timing?
I agree with mtber the numbers he is posting is not really something that would cause a car to overheat. Maybe at 8 degrees retarded at a prolonged time at wide open throttle however if its overheating at that I would still lean towards a poor cooling system itself and not the 8 degrees.
