Default knock sensor & crankshaft position sensor..?

Can someone tell me if these 2 sensors are absolutely important or can I get by without them (crankshaft position sensor & knock sensor). It's a 00 ex with a y8.

You will throw CEL, but not really necessary.

Posted this in another forum but I think this is the correct one..

I just bought a 00 ex. The check engine light is on & the temp gauge stays cold. Autozone scanned it & came up coolant temp sensor, knock sensor & crankshaft position sensor bad. So far I've replaced 2, the coolant temp sensor & knock sensor but my temp. gauge still doesn't go up past the first line even after I pulled the ecu fuse & did the reset routine. Could the t-stat be stuck open & if so wouldn't that have shown up on autozone's scanner?... The temp gauge on my cluster moves up about a quarter inch to the first line, even when warm it won't go up any further.
