Default Ignition monitoring with Apexi AFC NEO

How does ignition act in open loop. Im tuning in open loop and i notice earlier highway 55-70 mph ignition wouldnt go over 34°. An hour later it was as high as 40-42° which is how the ignition acts in closed loop. But why did it change.

I'm pretty sure the ignition maps do not change open loop vs closed loop. Open/closed loop is strictly for fueling needs/feedback. It could be one of your ignition corrections taking effect. Possibly even a radiator fan or AC system turning on and loading the engine enough to change ignition cells. Idk.

^ yep. Compare your logs between those two conditions and see if there was a difference in IATs or something.

Drove the car today for a few hours and it never got over 32° at cruise 55
I adjusted the afr with no change

Ignition is based on the location in ignition map so if u look at ur datalog u will know why

Heres one for you.... I set the car in open loop without using the correction maps and the ignition never got over 33° At cruise. Either Im having an issue or the ignition tables where never set that high

i think you are not understanding what you are looking at.

open loop/closed loop does not effect ignition.

Ok let me clear things up. Im using an afc neo ( i kno old technology) and ive been messing with the fuel/ign corrections in open loop but the igntion never get over 33° with the afc on and in open loop
It wont get over 33° in just open loop with no corrections
But when I go back to closed loop then 42-44° at cruise no problem

The AFC NEO doesn't adjust ignition, nor does it read it. All it does is skew the MAP sensor input on a very basic level; hence "Air-Fuel Controller", not "Fuel-Ignition Controller" (see AEM FIC).
For the record, the only way to advance ignition with an AFC is by leaning out, which ultimately just tells the ECU there's more vacuum. To raise fuel while advancing ignition with an AFC you add resistance to the IAT, effectively adding fuel and advance, at which point you can make milder adjustments to the base as needed.
In the good old days, we used a POT on the IAT and/or ECT to dial in the base, then tuned the AFC and readjusted the POT(s) based on what the dyno/knock results were.
PS your thread title is awful, I'm changing it. Please don't be that vague in your future threads.

everyone says those things don't just adjust fuel it adjusts ignition too...which is why I said Fuel/ignition.. no ones ever right on these kind of things always corrected. I don't kno what POT(s) is..
I will be plugging in my Hondata S300 within the next few days hopefully with better results cause that afc sucks with throttle tuning..

anyway I couldn't make much changes in closed loop so I set the car in open loop but the timing was around the 30-34 degree max at cruise...
how do you suggest tuning with an AFC NEO..?

I'm confident that your friendly moderator above has been around long enough to know how an AFC works.

All it has the capability to do is modify the MAP signal to fool the ecu into thinking it is at a different load level, the result being that it adds/subtracts fuel and timing together as per the original program. It's a roundabout way to get to a result and you do not have independent control of the two. The AFC definitely has no way of displaying the ignition as it has no way of gathering that information from the ecu.

A pot (potentiometer) is a variable resistor that can do the same thing to the IAT (on a simpler level) that the AFC does to the MAP.
