d15z1 ecu options
Hey all. I am new to Honda-Tech and Hondas in general but I have turned a wrench or 2 in my day so I am not a complete noob. I have a del sol which has had a d15z1 swapped in to it (bought it this way). It has a p06 ecu in it right now (I know, I know) and I would like some advice as to what my best option is going to be as far as cheapest ecu that will run the car decent (read: with vtec)(btw i have a 4 wire o2 which i would like to keep if possible). Would a chipped p28 fit the bill or does anyone have a p07 l01 or p07 l02 they would sell me? Any other options out there?

Didn't even know that was an option. Glad I posted. Thanks for the advice. I will have to do some research on this. Anyone care to spoonfeed me a diy?

Does anyone have experience with this kit? Any good? It's nice that they have all the instructions as well.

Re: d15z1 ecu options
Xenocron would be a good choice or so is Moates.net. That is where I used to get all of my chipping components when I first started. Now I buy from Digikey in bulk. It's cheaper, but for you only doing one ECU the kits are the way to go.
Make sure you verify the ECU main board version before you order the VTEC components. The board version number location is circled in red.
Your looking for the last 4 digits.
11F0,
1720 or
1980

googlers: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/d15z1-o2-sensor-2783135/ was helpful too.

Re: d15z1 ecu options
Thanks again for the advice. From my understanding doing the vtec conversion and chipping the p06 essentially turns it into a p28 and i can use a basemap for that ecu and my motor(eg the one in the above linked thread).

Re: d15z1 ecu options
Have you though about just buying a used D15Z1 ECU ? I might have one
FYI.... if you do use a chipped ECU don't turn the rev limit past 7K. The valve train isn't strong enough to keep the pistons an valves from touching.

Re: d15z1 ecu options
My p06 is 11f0 so it should be an easy job. I am concerned i might botch it and be without a car cause this is my dd but it looks easy enough.

Re: d15z1 ecu options
Thanks for the offer but like I said it's all about doing it as cheap as possible. Unless of course you want to sell me your ecu for the $30 the kit costs

Re: d15z1 ecu options
Well... I chipped my ecu and have been having trouble getting the chip to work. I am getting a solid cel which I believe means the car is in limp mode with an ecu error. I installed a switch on j1 so I can switch the ecu back to stock where it performs as it did before I chipped it (at least I didn't break it ). I re soldered any questionable connections but I believe my issue is with burning the eeprom. I have a willem programmer so I can't burn with crome. Anyone have any good resources on how to burn a good basemap onto a chip with a willem? Is there anything I should be doing to the basemap bin file before burning? The burns I have done have verified ok so I am fairly confident I am burning it right.
