Default crank issue, thread damaged

No idea how it happened (probably transportation) but i have a bent bolt in my crank, me and a friend managed to get it out hoping it was just the bolt that was damaged. Some if the threads are damaged hoping to re tap it on the same thread.

Having some trouble working out the pitch so if anyone has that on the top of their head would be helpful

Also any other options other then replacing the crank. Just rebuilt the engine then spotted this..such a set back for me right now arrgh

Rule # 1, always list basics. The engine, and specific bolt (cr pulley, flywheel?) are 100% necessary to help you.

it will depend on how bad and how much the thread are damage, you carry one of the good bolt your using just to match the thread. if the thread whole is rally bad just replace the fly wheel and bolt

You can't replace the flywheel to fix damaged crank threads. If ts really gnarled and messed up you might need to find another crank

Yeah theres no issue with the fly wheel.

Its not too bad, the first few threads have been effected.

Im just looking for a list of options. Other then the crank. Comes to that the car can stay off the road while i save for forged stuff.

First one is tapping the same thread in. Then hope. The thread isnt to mangled so it could work.

Or going for a larger pitch.

Another idea i had is to remove any loose bits. Taper the bolts slightly at the end and see if the thread can match up to the good threads further down

If its only the first few but is clean further in you might be OK chasing the threads back to the same pitch. Just be careful and I'm sure using something like wd40 to lubricate the tap would help. But wait for more expert opinions before you do as I've never had an issue like yours

Its not recommended but MANY people have run with more than one bolt missing out of their flywheel. Not saying you should do this just saying. If its only the first few threads, chase with tap, and try the bolt, if it torques fine then you're ok, or you could try to find a slightly longer bolt. Pictures would help a ton as everyones perceptions and estimations are different..

There is over 20mm of threads, just re-tap it and carry on with the build
