Default B vtec rocker arm pad machining

Well to start this off I'd like to give details about my situation

Motor can from h-motorsonline 98 spec long block Ran good na for 50k or so miles

Just recently tore the motor apart had the block sleeved forged internals. 85lb super tech springs stock itr cams correct lash.

I've noticed uniform rocker arm wear on each and every rocker the exact same amount. Cams look fine no issue with them.

Always run 20/50 vr1 oil since rebuild.

Questions.
I
1I want opinions about rocker arm wear and what are my options.

Now the images do seem to make it look way worse then they actually are but you can barely notice the divets.

It's exactly the same on intake side as well.

Seems like every used rockers I've seen have this wear line. Should I worry about running these ?

Maybe check them with a straightedge?
Can you catch anything with a fingernail?
I know vr1 is supposed to be good oil but it kinda seems that the oil wasn't doing a very good job?

Well. It is a good oil. I wish I could have ran it the entire life of the motor. But it wasn't ran that way.

My brother had this motor before me and He ran conventional penzoil when it was stock. It was fairly well maintained.

And yeah you can just barely catch a nail on them. It's weird that every set I've seen used have this wear line. Now the depth of them in not sure of

I just can't see paying oem Honda 200.00 a set when you need 8 sets. That would be absurd.

Stock honda cams create that line because of the very Short duration. There to "pointy" unlike performance cams not only have lift but they have a nice egg shape lobe with longer duration. I would not think you could catch a nail on it but more like feel the divet with the nail. I would just give them a nice polish buffer, you want them to have that natural arch they have, so I would not machine them.

Almost all of your VTEC rockers look like its lash was a little tight, so this could also be a reason why your seeing them all with a pronounced divet in the middle as well.
I kno you said correct lash but on the opening event side of the pad they all look scuffed, I can only see this as being to tight and/or 85lb springs with stock cams is a little overkill, I'm running pro1's and there springs for them are only 80lbs closed.

Well whatever wear you have on the rockers will most likely transfer to the new cam lobes. As old as these heads are getting, it may be a good idea to replace any that have any kind of physical wear, especially if you can catch it with a nail. Might be able to find a decent used set...my 2 cents.

If you can feel any kind of divit across the pad, I dont think I would use them.

Well I'm not changing cams. Staying with type r. I just rebuild the head completely with all ferrea This time with 100lb springs. I run over 30lbs of boost and need the higher spring rates.

This was all recommended by 4piston

On my rocker pads you can't really catch a nail but more like you can feel the depth difference

I actually set my lash on the looser end of the spec.

Now I found a used set on eBay I took the gamble and ordered them. They had the wear line. But according the owner they were low mileage.
