Default Troubleshooting my PC (beep codes)

My monitor went blank one afternoon with nothing other than 'No Signal' on the screen (with the computer still running).
So, I rebooted to hear beeping with nothing showing on the monitor... I know about beep codes but I don't ever recalling the kinds of beeps I was hearing.

It sounded just like an old ambulance siren. To help you get a better idea I've attached a youtube link of what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naJ9T9G4aZc

Of course I think it has something to do with the vid card. So I took it out and cleaned it and tried a few more times and finally the computer is operational. But, I have a feeling something is going to go out on me and I'd like to repair it while I still can, I don't want this happening again. I may be buying a new vid card soon but before I do, can anyone identify what the sound I was hearing means?

Thanks.

The sound could be coming from your motherboard trying to tell you what the problem is. Do you have a manual?

What kind of computer? You can get Dell beep codes from their support website.

The 'no signal' obviously means the monitor is not receiving a signal from the video card. This could be due to a faulty cable, video card or slot on the mobo where the video card is installed. Try a diff. cable if you can, move the card to a new slot or try on board video if you have the option. Once you get the video signal back you may be able to see the error on the screen which is causing the beep code.

It's a custom computer. The mobo is def. trying to tell me there's a problem, what the problem is? - I am not exactly sure, although the vid card is the main culprit and it's not giving me a series of beep codes... it's an old school ambulance siren.. so if you've heard this before or know what I'm talking about, then you might know what the problem was for you and you can tell me.

Did you try booting it without the video card installed? Does it still beep then?

Is there on-board video on your board? Can you use it?

No, that's a very good idea, I'll try that soon.
And no onboard vid/sound option.

Ok, just a moment ago same exact thing happend. Monitor doesn't get signal, I rebooted and got the ambulance siren with no vid signal. I thought it was a good opportunity to take your advise SuzukaBlueAP2 and rebooted without the vid card installed. I get a 1 long 2 short code which according to the Award BIOS diagnostics it means, "Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information".

I reinstalled the vid card after cleaning it and the computer is working again... but, for how long and what should I be replacing.. what is that annoying ambulance siren, mobo? vid card? failing fan?

Interesting. I don't think I know what the ambulance siren is though.

I could just speculate that you either have a failing video card or the slot on the mobo where the card is installed is failing. Or maybe just some dust got in there and frumped up the connection. These types of things are strange.
