Default Need help, please. 4GB install but only 2.87GB usable...

Hi, I had Windows Vista 32bit before and it was only using 2.87GB out of my 4GB ram. So, I decided to install Windows 7 64bit to see if it will use all of the 4GB, but no success. Still says in my system the installed memory is 4.00 GB(2.87 GB usable). I was wondering how can I fix this so it can use all 4GB. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750/Asus P5GC-MX/1333 motherboard/CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB)

I wonder if one of your memory sticks is partially corrupt. I know it can happen with hard drives, but I've never heard of it happening with memory...

your motherboard is DDR2 667 standard and the memory you have is 800. I dont think that would make a difference but who knows.

Ya, it's probably the ram I had a friend look at it and he said my motherboard only supports up to 5300 while the ram I have now are 6400 and the whole 667 and 800 thing also... Sucks, because the ram I need to get is more expensive than the ram I bought on sale...

It shouldn't cause a problem at all. Memory will down-clock. If you're worried about that, you can go into BIOS and change the frequency setting yourself.

Anyways....

Click the start button, in the search bar type "msconfig" -> "boot" tab -> "advanced options" -> uncheck "maximum memory" -> reboot

ooooh he said vista 32bit lol

in the 32bit world the max address space is 4GB

so you haz 4GB ram you say, where is it?

4GB - Video card ram - PCI address space - some other stuff IO = available ram.

Vista has been patched to show the physical amt of ram installed but the reason you only got 2.X GB free has to do wth what I posted above.

The fix is to get vista x64 media and install it using your key. 945G should support memory 1/0 remapping above physical ram so you should be able to use all of ur ram then

Thanks for the help, but the maximum memory was already unchecked and I can't see where you would change the frequency in BIOS...

Vista X64 won't see squat if your IQ is eating into your ram space on the CHIPSET . OP go into the BIOS and enable memory remapping.

Should be under "DRAM Frequency". The default setting is Auto. I wouldn't be surprised if your RAM is already running at 667 speeds on the auto setting. You can check this with CPU-Z.

If you type in "Resource Monitor" in the Win7 search button, you can see how your memory is being allocated. From doing some reading, you might have some of that missing memory being allocated for "Hardware Reserved".

I don't see "DRAM Frequency"... When I go in BIOS, I went to Advance->Chipset and I see "Configure DRAM Timing by SPD [Enable]", "Hyper Path 3 [Auto]", "DRAM Throttling Threshold [Auto]"... You are right about the missing memory is being allocated for "Hardware Reserved".

I got a vistro 1400 with the same chipset family and vista x64 sees all of the ram. You gotta make sure you BIOS is up to date and the memory remap is usually under advanced options

Ya, I tried updating my BIOS but no luck. I have the Asus update and it can't find any files for my bios when I do "Update Bios from internet". I even went to Asus and selected my motherboard and downloaded the latest BIOS update. Then open Asus update "Update BIOS from file" and some reason it says my motherboard is a Asus P5GC-MX(UD) and not a P5GC_MX/1333...

Don't worry about changing the memory frequency, I doubt that is the issue. Do you have an external video card installed?

Did you disable the integrated one in the BIOS settings?

Memory hole remapping for my Asus motherboard is under the "Ai Tweaker" tab. I then have to set "Ai Overclocking" to manual. Memory hole remapping is under "memory configuration".

You should read your motherboard manual for clarification.

Aight, so I set the "AI OVERCLOCKING" to manual and change the dram frequency to the three different settings and nothing change. There was no option for the memory hole remapping.
