Default "Insufficient memory available to complete the operation"

This is relatively time-sensitive, so any answers I can get would be wonderful.

To preface this - I've already restarted, rebooted, unplugged and otherwise let my computer cool down.

So I'm working in Adobe Illustrator (here at work) and need to export several files as JPEGs. This has never been a problem before, as the laptop I use is rather powerful and has plenty of space, however, while I can still save changes to the illustrator document (huge file), the program is coming up with this window:

"Insufficient memory available to complete the operation"

whenever I attempt to export anything (as jpeg, gif, bmp, etc.). This just started happening after I allowed the computer to reboot at the behest of Windows [freak]-Updater. The operating system is XP and the computer has been running fine until this.

Any suggestions?

This is only happening in Illustrator (the program I need right now). I can export and save things just fine in other programs.

i can think of two things. You dont have enough virtual memory, or have have too many applications opened. try closing some applications before exporting those files.

How big of files are we talking about? How big of a page file do you have setup? How much RAM?

if all this started happening after an update I would sart with a system restore first, prior to the update, if problem persist, then start check memory, pagefile, and file size etc.. like others have mentioned

Neither of those - I tried them before I made the post. This problem just started occurring, and it happens regardless of the number of programs open.

I was working off an 8.02 Meg file, exporting no more than a few hundred Kbs at a time - nothing different than I had been doing all day. RAM is over 1000 (hasn't changed since the problem started), page file is very large.

I'm probably going to roll it back now, since the tech support guy couldn't figure it out Click the image to open in full size.

Thanks for all the help, fellas Click the image to open in full size.

Which version of AI are you using? I have AI 8, AI 10 and CS, but I prefer working in 8 since it's a lot faster than the newer versions.

AI files are usually pretty small (compared to PS files). Do you have linked or embedded images in your AI file? Embedded images will increase you file size and also use more memory. Linked images will decrease your file size.

You can dump your unused swatches and brushes to reduce your file size. (typically these libraries add about 300kb to all your files)

For a temporary fix, you might want to take a screen capture and save that as a jpeg.

Usually if I get an AI memory error, I can close a few programs and it will work, but I'll have to restart AI too.

i use to run cs2 and it's doing that to me all the time(one gb rams on XP professional), crashing while saving, memory going thru the roof, etc

go search up adobe to see if your version of Ai have a known problem with accessing rams.(they probably do but the solution is often just to get the newest ai =/ )

<---running cs3 with 6 gb rams and x4 cores
