I have a buddy that is going to go RWD 1700ish pound car.

He's undecided on what engine to run. So this post might be a little lengthy post to give you details. One thing he's into is maintenance on his engines, so realistically he likes 2 engines built so he can take them out and refresh them.

Option 1:
He has 3 built/sleeved b-series engines from his civic.
He could buy the G-force RWD transmission . I think the 5R for close to 8k
Respline his b-series comp twin plate.

I figure this route he'd probably spend ~ 10k by the time he gets a different IM (I think we could possibly cut his IM and flip the TB port around but that's something else to look into)


Option 2:
He has a power glide and converter from his other racing operations. So he can spend about 2k into building the PG and redo his converter.

Then I suggested going to a k-series engine. He can sell his S300 and switch to a k-pro for under 200. As he won't even need the PRB ecu. He could use a simple PNF which is cheap.

But my thinking is say his budget is 10k. 2k for transmission stuff. he has 8k to build his k-series engine(s) and misc.

Also, on a tangent, what transmissions are the RWD k-series using? glides? G-force? I know there were a couple setups that were posted so maybe I'll go check out their threads also.

Option 3:
4g63 engine.
Everyone knows it's dirt cheap to build a Mitsubishi engine compared to a Honda engine from a non sleeving perspective. They have PG adapter plates available. etc etc.


So in all seriousness, what option seems "best"? Or what would you do if you were going to build a RWD car?

I personally like the k-series stuff more but I can see how using the eclipse motor wouldn't be a bad idea as they are pretty stout when build properly. I would guess on an auto the crank walk issues would be minimized.

I like the k-series to glide, but for the sake of ease I'd figure the 4g63 to glide option is best.
