SpeedFactory Racing - 2011 Etown Shootout Recap & Thank You Thread
This is a little late coming as we've been trying to catch up since getting back, but we at SpeedFactory Racing just wanted to give a big thanks to all of our fans and sponsors for supporting us and our racing efforts throughout the year, and helping get us to the East Coast Shootout.

THANK YOU!!! Without your help none of this would be possible for us.
I also wanted to give a recap of events at the Shootout from inside the SF camp as I know it's tough to follow with the spotty updates on H-T, and I've also heard many versions of things that aren't exactly true or accurate.
All Motor Street Recap:
We decided to test a new hood scoop for the #1 qualifier, and it ended up hurting power so we removed it. Due to oil downs and noise curfew, the #2 qualifier never took place on Saturday. This left us badly needing the last chance qualifier on Sunday morning to dial in the tune with the scoop removed. The car ended up snapping an axle on the line and never made another qualifying pass. Luckily fellow racer and event coordinator Jake Gavio had on hand a spare set of axles that he was kind enough to let us run and continue competing (thanks buddy!).
So with only 1 qualifying pass the Sipes Brothers all motor K-series Civic qualified #4 out of 16 with a 10.41 @ 129.6mph.
Running with a best guess tune, Joel was able to win the 1st elimination round against MarcP with another 10.41 @ 129.2mph to Marc's 10.55 @ 129.6mph.
We made changes to the tune as it had run lean - unfortunately air conditions changed drastically while waiting in the staging lanes and Joel was eliminated in the 2nd elimination round running a new personal best of 10.31 @ 129.5mph with the car again running extremely lean & down on power to Jake's 10.19 @ 133.8mph pass.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwmKVXrbceY
Not the showing we had hoped for as the car has been running 132mph traps in worse air for most of the season, but we feel certain the car was capable of running in the teens as well if it wasn't for the lean condition. Our 60ft times were amongst if not the best in the class (1.47) but the car was way down on power and we weren't able to put together the whole package this time around. We plan on posting a new best ET & MPH in a few weeks here at WCF though!
Outlaw Street FWD Recap:
We went into the event needing to dial the car in with a few recent untested changes to the cooling system, turbocharger, and fuel. Our strategy was to keep the tune real soft and go rounds to collect data and get it dialed back in with the new changes, getting slightly more aggressive with each pass.
For the 1st qualifier, we made an 1/8th mile hit for some data and let off, 9.84 @ 105mph on the brakes just to get on the board.
After datalogs verified that everything was working well (other than the launch limiter getting stuck on for most of 1st gear), we decided to leave the tune mild and go ahead and make a full pass for our 2nd qualifier, which resulted in a new best 60ft time of 1.46 seconds and an 8.87 @ 171.6mph which was enough to secure the #1 qualifying position as well as low ET and high mph. The 3rd qualifier never happened due to time constraints.
Sunday morning came and we had a bye run 1st round. 2nd round eliminations resulted in another great 1.47 second 60ft time and a new personal best 1/8th mile time of 5.83 @ 138.97mph when mechanical issues (the rear motor mount came loose and the motor shifted forward) prevented the shifter from throwing properly and damaged the 4th gear dogs, and we coasted to a 9.39 @ 118mph which was enough to beat Barone's 9.39 @ 162.5mph thanks largely to Kevin cutting a great light.

We had to perform a rush transmission swap to make the call for the semi-final round, which we were able to accomplish in a mere 38 minutes! At this point the event was being severely rushed to try and complete the race before curfew. The car that ran our lane previous to us trailed water onto the track and it wasn't caught by anyone. This resulted in massive tire shake and an appalling 1.66 second 60ft time. Thankfully Kevin was able to drive through it & the tire shake didn't break anything in the trans. Posted a 9.03 @ 173.03mph to take the win over LaCarla who unfortunately had clutch problems (it would've been another killer race) and move into the finals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYNYuLmfoEo
We were instructed to hot lap the car and return directly to the lanes for the final. Facing subpar track conditions and a heat soaked racecar, Kevin cut another good light (.098) and despite many issues with the run posted low ET and high mph of the event with an 8.87 @ 174.87mph to take the win over Rick Everly's 9.14 @ 159.7mph!

We had hoped to post a solid 8.6xx in the final like the pass against Barone would've been, but our lane went to crap in the final and Kevin made a few driving errors. It blew the tires away with a crap 1.55 sixty and then hit the limiter in 1st & 2nd badly, and spun a bit in 3rd as well.
We've been hearing criticism about how slow we went, etc. (8.8's @ 174+ is slow I guess) and I guess all I can say is we did our best. We are running a super basic EMS setup with an S300 & pwm boost by gear, and an MSD Digital 6+. No slew rate limiters, no traction control of any type, no rear speed monitoring, nothing to help compensate if the track goes away or it gets out of the groove, etc. Just the same basic stuff that's on any typical turbo street Honda. We feel great about being able to run as well as we do with what we have, had a great time, and plan on doing it again next year.
The event was a massive success, with a great turnout of spectators and racers. Thanks once again to all of you that have given us your support and helped us to make this event and all of you who stopped by to visit and check us out. We had a great time visiting with our fellow East Coast racers and friends as usual, it's always a pleasure coming out east thanks to you all.
Both cars ran great and are still healthy, so we decided to go ahead and take advantage of being over there already and attend the World Cup Finals as well where we expect to run a new best ET and trapspeed to finish this year with a bang. See you all there!

As I understand it, you were #1 qualifier, and won Outlaw. That's as good as it gets in a heads up race situation.
.3 ET and 5mph from blowing both cert numbers and requiring a 25.5 cert. That's what some consider "slow"? ~~~ I think at this point, what, 4-5 people total can say they've done it faster?

thanks to you guys! i think its beyond awesome that you guys came from the left coast rolling deep and competed in two classes...that speaks volumes! thats called giving back..thanks! anyone talking smack should go die in a fire.. lets see someone else travel across the country and spend probably 3x more than you can possibly win and then still have enough humility to come on here and be grateful..
im glad you guys got the win even if you didnt in my book you are winners anyway

congrats guys, a lot of hard work i could tell from your last minute loading up of the racecars on the trailer to the lil gremlin problems you encountered, it still payed off...
and thanks James for helping me to get my tranny back together. we were 5mins shy of making eliminations but at least box is fixed now and just need to fix few other things and test.
