Snell M2000 helmet ok for NHRA?
I was curious if it is acceptable to use a SNELL M2000 motorcycle helmet for drag racing? I have a good hookup for motorcycle helmets and I will be needing a helmet for next season.

Justin

I was just looking through the NHRA rules and it list the Snell 2000 helmets valid thru 1/1/2012. I'm just curious if its legal to use a snell rated motorcycle helmet?

I think there's a point where you need to have a Snell SA-rated helmet. I don't remember if it's 7.49 and faster or if it was 150mph or faster.

All kinds of different answers. The tech at NHRA siad my M2000 helmet was good for for this year not the 08 year.

Mmm, I'm confused by that. Sounds like they accept motorcycle snell rated helmets.
Here are the rules. Page 96:

Section 11, Rule 10:7 - 7.49 or quicker must use a helmet meeting Snell SA2000, SA2005..yada paraphrase yaya yada..Specs.
There's also a rule that states that all Pro car drivers must have a HANS device (and obviously a helmet with supports for the HANS device tethers).

m2000 is allowed unless a roll cage is necessary, then you need a sa2000/2005
also the m2000 helmets are accepted til 2012.
someone correct me but thats what im getting from reading the nhra rules/boti rules

Well the rule book dont state a solid answer, and i do have a 10 point cage in the car, i have ran at NHRA track before and they never said anything, but i wanna enter a few Nhra/Ndra events this year, so i wanna make sure!

its good. full faced M hemets are equivalent to sfi spec 41.2a. an M2000 is legal up to 7.50 and i would guess its valid till at least 2012 (41.2a says 2014 but by the earlier it wouldnt hurt to replace it anyway).

Re: Snell M2000 helmet ok for NHRA? (B18c1turboedEK)
side note i was told all the m/motorcycle helmet's were not legal in road racing because they do not have a fire rating where the snell helmets are nomex or some thing of the same nature. if you have ever seen polyester melt to skin its nasty im not shure if the nhra is the same
