R.I.P. Mark Riley - Turbo Tune US
Just got a call from Jason that Mark from Turbo Tune in NC passed away. He was a big asset to the sport compact community and helped out Darrell ***/Mike Crawford/SRT Racing, Kevin Van Natten, Tex Blackwell and many others. He was always at the track always answered questions we had. You will be greatly missed.

Dang, I know others that have gotten tuned up down at his shop, which is only about an hour away from me.
Any word on what happened, culprit?
Someone I was talking with just the other day was talking about Mark.
RIP

We will miss him very much, he helped get and the shop where I am today.
Mark died of a heart disease we found out about recently. He died in his sleep.
He will be missed forever here at B.R.E. He was my best friend.
Mark Riley was the man, he could tune anything his knowledge is just insane, he has been around so much!!!
Mark was my hero and heroes just don't die! , A father to me and a son I was to him, I still can't believe it.
I'm still waiting to wake up from my worst nightmare we depended on him so much.
Last night we all sat together and ate at Steak n Shake (mark loved to eat there) with Darell *** and Mike Crawford along with Cameron and a couple other close shops we were all very close...

Quoted from Darrel *** ,
As of yesterday I found out that Mark Riley had past away while sleeping Wensday night at his home. Not to many details at this point and I will inform you all as we get thru this tough time. As many of you know Mark Riley was part of our team thru out the our entire racing scene with the beginning of the "Green Goblin", Crawfords Mopar Hot Rod, and even untill current with KVs "Red Sled". Close does not even describe how close Mark was to me and everyone who really got to know him. He is the very person who has inspired me to do what I do. After many many years, thousands and thousands of traveled miles, and hundreds of races his life has been taken from us all. From all of those early morning sunrises and late nights at the races and at his shop and ours he will forever be missed. So many times together, so many laughs together, so many meals together, so many movies(in the race hauler) together, all never will be forgotten. Once you really got to know Mark and he really got to know you, you realized then he had a big heart and was a true giver. After many years together I had never even seen him cry. In 2005 at the NHRA Compact Fall Nationals at Etown he cried with happiness as Crawford finally went 7.90@188. He could not even speak from being choked from the tears and happiness. That then made me realize that my goals was his goals and we achieved them from working side by side all that time. Mark was like that with everything he did in his life and with everyone that worked with him. Some of the best pictures in my mind of Mark is him smiliing. Children and pets touched marks soft side and his smiles while being around them said it all. Mark was single with no children and leaves us at the age of 59. We all was his true family.

I met mark last year in vegas and we were pitted next to eachother in jersey. He helped my with Chads SRT over the phone with a couple issues. He has great knowledge and a awesome sense of humor and always made everyone laugh. 100% gearhead.

I wanted to get the above out before I posted my thoughts... I received this info last nite from Tex Blackwell...I was floored, I still really dont know what to say. I am going to miss my friend... I would talk to Mark on average, twice a week... We would compare tuning nightmares, I would would ask him have you ever seen this? What should I do with this? He allways was some one to share your experience, with and give his experience without even asking....Im am not good at writting, but since 2002 the talks I have had with him, have been both informative, and definetly entertaing.... Anyone that knew him, could tell you the way he would say things, were priceless, he would have me in tears on the fun with some of his sayings.... I am going to miss him, allready today on the way home I went to his number in my cell phone, and the realisation that I cant call him just to see what he is up to has hit me.....
The above post has all the info for his memorial sunday, please come if you can so we can remember our friend.

I learned of this news yesterday after receiving a message from Darrell. Although I have grown away from the scene the last few years, If it wasnt for Mark I would of never won the championships or races we won together. He was there tuning me the whole way. Not once ever asking for anything in return. I could go on and on for what Mark did for me but just a few examples are he donating all of the tubing and took time out to oversee the backhalving of the all motor car in a 3 week time period. He stayed up night after night race weekends going over data trying to find every hundreth possible. One time at Englishtown we had a crazy miss in the car and Mark went thru every connection and wire on my car until he found it, we went on to win that race. I remember after beating Ken Sheepers by a mere 6 points for the all motor championship, Mark shedding a tear of shear joy and happiness.
The world has lost a true Angel.
Thank you for everything you have done for me Mark. I cant say that enough.
R.I.P my friend.

I can't describe how much I'm going to miss Mark. Mark truly was the unspoken man behind Kevin's Neon. We never would have achieved what we did in the past 2 years without Mark tuning that car every step of the way. Mark was not just a friend but a Mentor to me. I'm deeply saddened he is gone, but now cherish every bit I learned from the man even more. Mark lived an amazing life of speed. he lived to see that board light up with a ET. Mark really was "A Tuners Tuner" to a lot of us.
