open stock front bumper vs closed off bumper. ET results
So I know as far as aerodynamics go, a closed front end is obviously the way to go. I'm wanting to do it to my turbo'd civic and was wondering what kind of results others came up with after, as far as ET or trap speed wise. I'll gonna be using a piece of flashing riveted on, okie I know but hey it works. Also I dont have a trailer to tow it there (soon hopefully) and am concerned about my car overheating on the way there. was wondering if anyone has been in this situation and if you had problems with your temps rising.

I don't know if you will go any faster at the track but if you block the radiator and drive on the street its a no brainer that your temps will rise. Buying a trailer is the best thing I ever did.

If you just wanna test, drive it to the track and then cover the bumper with duct tape or something similar for a data point.
IMO non-pro level Hondas are rarely consistent enough to track small data points like this any way.

I see. yeah my main goal right now is to get a trailer first, but I have access to the flashing and rivets from my work from some leftover pieces from jobs and was just curious of results from doing this. that's why I was asking.

I think Jake(2FastGSR) might have some of this data from hack when he was H2B. He recorded sooooooo much data testing from even the smallest of changes.

But I wouldn't necessarily lump it as the pro-level guys alone. I know a few bracket racers and Test & Tune guys (with manual, front wheel drive cars - both turbo and NA) that are perfectly consistent enough as driver/setup combos that would easily log data and register the correct results on things like this. Given that this is something that can be done on the same day for track/weather conditions, that makes the test THAT much easier - especially if it doesn't end up being a "small data point"! Haha.
Definitely in for some results! Try it out.

I think this is one thing that, as forum readers, we have to be careful about. You don't want to interpret results the wrong way from some stranger online that you don't know how consistent they are as a driver.

i will also be testing to see if rear bumper with holes vs no rear numper period... we will see how it goes.

Closing the front end is only going to help your trap MPH . . . everyone does it from land speed to circle track guys (primarily in qualifying).
I haven't the slightest clue how linear that line would look though.

From my own testing I gained .5mph with the front bumper blocked off. That was tested back to back. Sorry I dont have any times slips to show

cool. good to hear someone else's results. how much hp you running? I'm wondering if the more hp/faster the car is before closing it off, the more gains you would see from this? I just picked up a car dolly last weekend so now I dont have to worry about the overheating issues. my closest local track will be finally opening up on the 26th so I'll be able to get some base passes in before I close it off and try it out

Yeah def don't drive it to the track closed. One winter my thermostat failed open and I didn't wanna fix it in the cold so I put cardboard in front of the rad. The first MILDLY WARM day I nearly overheated, not paying attention.

Just done some testing with open vs close front end.
We are in a tropical country and its summer now.
When we closed the intercooler opening, the intercooler was very hot, heat soaked really.
Everything shooted up in the sensors.
We will continue to do more testing but I think weather will play a huge role in this.
