Liberty Face Plating/ RacerStev Heat treatment/ Gear treatments in general chat
Hey guys,
What are your experiences with Liberty face plating your gears, using the RacerStev heat treatment, or what other kinds of treatments have you used?
My tranny is apart and I'm wanting to do something with the gears. Car will be around 7-800whp, so I'm not jumping to a dog box yet.
Tranny also has an mFactory LSD and synchrotech carbon sychros.
Thanks.
Ryan

well if you face plate then the synchros go out the door.
i did it back in 2009. worked great.

tried the heat treat thing for a while with no success, switched to liberty faceplate for a while and had no issues, then finally upgraded to a Gforce that has been great since working the bugs out with long shifter...

My gears are getting treated with RacerStev right now! I have been thinking about liberty face plating as well...
I wish I could give u some feedback from experience but I am in the same boat as you. Just giving it a shot and learn from my own experience/success/mistakes as always.

I was quoted 800-900 with cryo treatment with new sliders and hubs.was going to try it but found a good deal on a straight cut gear set ..seems to work from the research I did on them..

I ran a gsr gear set that I had faceplated by liberty. I made 760 on the dyno @ 28lbs but the car saw 34 psi in Vegas so I estimate around 850-900 and 550 tq. Trans held up great and shifted very nicely.
I ran a spool, 5.9's and a tilton flow valve and exedy twin.
I ended up selling it off but I'd be shocked if you could get it all done for under $1200.

It says there that its $80 per gear. They do not do it to first gear, correct? It's just 2-3-4? So you'd need this done to 6 individual gears total?

I had 1-4 gears go through there full metal enhancement process aswell as my counter and ring gear, the 1-4 face plating and bought the 5th gear cuff and it was 1300..
-200 if u don't want the 5 gear cuff

Any pictures of the face plated setup ? What do they put in place of the syncro system ? I'm new to trans building and need some info as well. Im going to be around 800HP and dont have dogbox money.

Here's some pics of my Liberteys faceplated gears. They take your stock 1-4 gears cut off the synchro teeth and weld their dogs on and give you new hubs and sliders. Shifting into gear is smooth and easy, but just got to remember don't hesitate when shifting, just shove it in there lol!

I'd say any treatment on stock gears doesn't really work. when gear wants to go while you are on a pass... it's going break no matter how you look at it.
faceplating wise, i have no clue about it except it's removing syncros 1-4th gear.
called liberty, didn't get any answer except "we will have to call you back".
anyone care to explain how it really works and is this another route for guys/gals that doesn't have the funds to buy dogbox transmission?
ps-even if you do the faceplating, it seems that gears are still "helical cut stock gear". is that true? what is the reason for faceplating? except "smooth shifting/more contact and removing syncros 1st - 4th gear"

I would only think that a properly treated gear ( cryo treatment, heat treatment, and also shot penned) can only make the metal stronger if done correctly..
My 2nd and 3rd were chewed up really bad and to fix it I would have been looking to spend quite a bit to fix it and still have just a oem setup, I figured the dog engagement would help with quicker shifts and of course no more grinds seeing there isn't a hundred small teeth to line up ... Figured id give it a try, not to happy about the long wait especially if one of these gears happens to break I'm worried ill be out of another season waiting on a gear..
That's prob when the dog box would come into play
