Flat towing?
Does anyone here flat tow their race car? If you do why do you prefer to flat tow it over using a full size trailer? I currently use a full size trailer that has no suspension and was home built by some guy somewhere that I don't know lol. My trailer works great but it having no suspension can be a bit of a handful and on long drives I tend to get exhausted while towing a trailer. Flat towing seems to be easier. What are your opinions?
My thoughts are that the trailer weighs 1100lbs and adds stress on my tow vehicle which is a 08 Tacoma and it tows great no complaints with my truck. But pulling a trailer for a long distance really wears me out. Im constantly looking back at the tires on the trailer and worrying about the lighting or whatever might fail ya know. Maybe im just a worry wort I dunno.

Re: Flat towing?
I have done it a few times. It's a pain in the *** to hook up, plus you always have brackets on your car. Also, the car being towed has to be registered/insured. For people like me with a no title race car, that wouldn't work.

Yea, must be the lack of suspension on the trailer. I have towed for around 4 hours and its no big deal. My trailer pulls like a dream though.

Re: Flat towing?
The truck actually does a really good job towing it's got an upgraded towing package on the suspension and it pulls very nicely. I also have a lifted Jeep on 33's that I take out to an offroad park a couple times a year using my trailer. Even with the big heavy Jeep the trailer seems to do fine I'm not fighting the trailer while I'm driving. But the lack of suspension and the fact that the trailer is homemade has me constantly worried while driving. I used to tow with a tow dolly and an underpowered Ford truck and had the same issues with fatigue. I never had any problems with this until I have gotten older. I have actually been to see numerous doctors about my fatigue issues. I thought maybe my eyesight was failing and I was just straining too hard to see at night. Obviously this problem affectts me the worst at night after a full day of racing out of town. I usually have my wife and 2 kids in tow and my wife refuses to drive the truck and trailer so wherever we go to race the driving is up to me. We usually leave the house around 3am and get home the next day around midnight. I know that that is a long day for anyone but when I was younger I could do it standing on my head lol.
My goal is just to try and make towing less of a strain on myself and less dangerous for my family. When possible I do try and bring a buddy with me to share in the driving. I just thought that flat towing would be easier than towing with a big trailer. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and sell my trailer to purchase a good quality new trailer that I will be less worried about.

Re: Flat towing?
I have a '05 Silverado 1500 and I use rent a U-Haul trailer each time. Made tows from LA to Bakersfield, Phoenix, and Vegas. No problem. They say I can pull an enclosed with no problem up to 7k. I think that's what GVMR(?) is...
