It is and it is not. It is great for containing fluids and all BUT some people have them waaaay too low, some where actually touching the ground right before pulling into the water box. I have to check rules again but it needs to be 3" from ground correct? So that is a part some people may need to fix.
Also one person was running down the track, I saw at the 1/8th his pan dropped THEN at the 1000ft or right at the 1320 it finally let go went under his driver's side tire and flew up and over the car.
One person made a comment that if it did hit the ground and there was fuel and sparks it could get pretty scary BUT then again that all goes back to the person I guess who made it and needs to make sure it isn't too low so...........tisk tisk
Edit: It is a GREAT IDEA, just make them per the rules and make sure they are stable

Re: (Boostfed.com)
i think the pan is a great idea but they just need to do a better job at tech...instead of just making sure you have one they need to check to see if its 3"s or more off the ground and make sure its secured correctly

Re: (Boostfed.com)
I agree with you Terry. If made correctly then it's great. Just like anything else in this industry.... if not done right it can actually cause more safety concerns.
Tech does need to step up their game IMO. They set rules, but don't provide enough detail and / or enforce them enough.
NHRA / NOPI rules are much different from our circle track rules. They are much more clear and defined. The end reader is left with no questions and there is no misinterpretation at all.

Im just glad they restated the rules for 08. Fitting a pan and diaper in there together would be quite a tight fit, not to mention it would be the biggest hassle when trying to do anything.

Yeah BUT MAYBE the diaper would be a better rule, Diaper only, absorbs all fluids and is not too low and scraping and such. Expensive though

Re: (Boostfed.com)
The pan, in theory and if built right, would catch more. It catches puking Endyn catch can fluids too. lol
The only thing is when you build a catch pan, you need to build it so that it doesn't trigger staging lights. It needs to sit as high as possible. It also should be somewhat aerodynamic so that 140+ speeds don't rip the thing from the bottom of your engine bay.
