CRX weight diff HF/DX

Default CRX weight diff HF/DX

I currently have a 89 civic si and am going to swap my engine in to a crx for drag racing purposes.. Now why is that the 88-89 HF weighs almost 200lbs less then the dx.. whats the diff.. Id rather have a hf then the dx that i have now.. I have a 89 dx crx whats so heavy on it.

I have had all 3 models, 88 through 91 at one time or another. When they are stripped down to a bare shell, they all weigh the same for the most part. Its the additional stuff in the DX and SI models that make up for the weight differences, ie, AC, bigger brakes, transmission types, interior differences, sun/moon roof, different exhaust/manifold/cat set ups, etc. Theres a lot of little things that add up. If you plan on stripping it down to nothing, Im talking bare unibody chassis, to build a real drag car with non OEM fab'd/custom front and rear suspension, etc, and all you plan on keeping is the actual unibody, than the model really doesnt matter IMO.

Im not planning on modifying the unibody like most do with the front end to fit the fiberglass front.. I plan on keeping the exterior stock looking.. Still would like to drive it around.. My 89 DX does have a hard top so that must be the lightest and im not sure if i could install the aluminum drums off the hf to my dx. i dont want the front hf small spindles ill keep the dx ones. and i think the gas tank is larger in the dx then the hf.. i plan on getting rid of the gas tank maybe..to a custom plastic tank.. dont think i will have a full exhaust. just a dp.. and I dont know i the 88si hf doors would bolt up to the 89 dx cuz mine has the seat belts on the doors.. not sure if i can add the doors or not.. I just would like it to weigh around 1800lbs..

you can get a hatch down to 1800lbs easily.

any non-si 88-91 should have no problem getting there.

mines hatch is is.. So i just got this 89 dx crx hard top so it should be good for 1800lbs i want to go faster next year.. I dont see why i wouldnt be able to run even a 10sec run.. It should be able to pull 130mph..

My crx si is down to 1770 and still got more i can take off I'd say another 100 to 200 off. them doors got alot of wieght. I've run 9.5s with my setup.

Wait til you put all of those body parts back on it that its missing.

IDK what i'm doing wrong then. My CRX weighs 1740 100% race ready.

the main weight differences are from year to year. an 88 hf is lighter than the 91 hf. Most of the cars have side impact bars in the doors, the 88 hf doesnt, ac, and other safety equipment add up. BUt as others have mentioned when they are gutted out race ready they all weigh about the same.

The last time i had this set-up tuned at T1 it made 776whp@like 31psi Its been awhile so not exactly sure on numbers.
