Default BW 92mm turbine

Anyone ever play with the 92mm turbine wheel that Borg Warner sells? And any marked improvement over the 87mm?

I just went 176MPH last week with a 87mm turbine 100% SFWD legal... I still lift to shift. Boost drops to 4psi on the 1-2 shift. So that should give you a clue what the 87mm is capable of. It has been over 170MPH the last 10-15 runs..

I don't doubt the 87mm will suffice. Great traps. Was that on the standard shelf 72mm too? I have the billet 72, which is 72/91.4.

Car's about done, and doing a 92mm swap is cheap. At a bit of a disadvantage with the srt-4 in comparison to you guys, so trying to find ways to get some extra power out of the car to be a little more competitive. Was going to run the car on its current configuration, but having the option for the 92mm is nice, and was just curious if someone else has had luck trying it.

Where did you find this 92mm turbine wheel you speak of? Is it listed in the BW catalog and is an upgrade for the 72mm T4 framed turbos?

I highly doubt you'll see any power gains by just swapping turbines unless you have alot of back pressure.. I have tried a bunch of different turbine combos on BW turbos. Never seen any gains. Only thing I seen was it made more or less boost at X power. The compressor reaches its MAX CFM and its done.

I am running a prototype cast unit. This turbo makes power in the HIGH boost range. The turbo you have was maxed out at ~42psi on my car (I ran cast) but did and will run over 170MPH.

You can easily over spin the turbo by not matching the turbine to engine and turbine to compressor wheel. All this plays a roll in "making power".
