Default Art Morrison Roll Bars/Cages

Has anyone used one of Art Morrison's kits? Do they come shipped ready to be welded in? It says each one is desgned for your car. I need to have a 6 PT. in and I know Art Morrison is good stuff. Any comments on the stuff?

I know a couple of people who bought the cages from them, looked good, needed some trimming here and there, nothing serious.

as with what NRDAtech said, any cage is goin to need some trimming here and there.

Yes. I have dealt with Art Morrison. We have Art Morrison cages in 4 of our cars. They are the 6pt chrome moly cages. They come with the main hoop bent, and all the other pieces need to be notched to fit. They come with the gussets that needed to bolt to the floor. They carry a ship charge of $80.00 to Nor Cal. Good guys up there. If you are thinking about it, e mail me and I will give you the name of the guy to ask for when you call.

The morrison stuff also comes pre-notched but you still have to mess with it to get everything to fit just how you want it. I guess it just comes down to how **** you are, and you should be very **** !!! I am sure the full-race stuff is just as good but I have never used one of them yet only the morrison stuff .

What parts do you have to trim? The notched parts? I don't have access to a tubing notcher, that's why I'm worried.

full race is 600 for a roll bar. i got mine for 530 full cage. i don't see your point?

u dont need a notcher, just use a grinder with a small wheel. thats what i did. u also need to have a good eye for "fitting" things if ur an amature cage assembler.

I have a good for detail and such. I like everything to go together clean and look good as well. SO what part do you cut them? The flat part that welds to the plates or the actual notched end that welds tube to tube?

As far as wanting everything to go together clean, that is where the fab shop comes into. Remember being chrome moly, that can only be tig welded. So that right there usually consists of more time in itself. Not to mention that fab shops usually require that the headliner be taken out of the vehicle as well so that they do not burn it while welding in the car. Not to mention that you have to remove all the seats, and at the very least pull the carpet back to expose the floor pan. DO NOT weld gussets to the floor pan. The sheetmetal is too thin, and will be burned and warped as soon as that tungston starts to heat up. That is why you drill press holes into the gussets, and then put another "sandwich" plate under the car. The only ones that you weld are the rear kick back bars to either the strut towers, or to the frame rails.

The car is all apart so welding it in is nothing, the interior is bare as can be. I don't have a TIG, so I'm gonna check around and see who can weld it in decently cheap.

Just estimate anywhere from $700-$1000 to do the weld in fab. If it is any less than that, I would proceed with caution. You figure anywhere from $70-$100 hour labor, and it usually take a total of about 10 hours. Not only are you going to be inspected at the strip, if anything happens and the car flips, it is there to save your life. Just remember that.

You're saying after you order the cage another $700-1000? I don't know about all that, there's a place here in town that uses mild steel and build from scratch and charges $500-600 including the cage. I'll see what prices I can find.

The only thing is again you have to remember this is YOUR SAFETY. Just be careful. MIG welds are NEVER as good as TIG welds, period. Plus with the MIG gun, you can hardly get a 100% weld around the tubing because of the roof, and the B-pillar. Not to mention you can not "grind" the welds down (a lot of shops will do that with MIG welds). You will FAIL tech inspection. And last but not least, about 30%. That is how much heavier mild steel (DOM) is over chrome moly.

That's where I plan to get the cage from. I'm just saying I can't see a shop $700 to charge to TIG weld it, I know you can't really MIG chromoly. Art Morrisdon is a great name, can't hardly beat it.

why is everyone always so worried about the headliner... or that the headliner needs to be taken out... any half-assed chassis shop can build a cage with the headliner in and not burn it one bit...
