Default aftermarket sleeves

Hey guys I was recently on the phone with someone stating that he had a golden eagle sleeve sink on on him, after contacting GE they shelved the sleeves so no more issues. I dont know how true that is because ive never heard of that but he also told me that aftermarket sleeves can shatter. I tried to google it but I cannot find any threads on that. Is that really possible?

No. and No. The "Sleeve sinking" from Golden Eagle was a phenomenon from over 12-13 years ago, in which one technician was skipping steps in the process causing about a dozen blocks to do it. they've solved that MANY moons ago.

You're fine. Plus they Guarantee their work.

Same here. Original GE sleeved block since 2003. 12 years, 35 events, 2 cylinder heads, same block.

8 years, 2 rebuilds 1 over bore same block, love it.
Only have one concern; Rust in the radiator fluid, but I think this is with all aftermarket and even stock sleeves that uses 50/50 or less coolant mix.

I was using Prestone premixed 50/50 coolant,
and also tried Redline water wetter with distilled water. both caused rust, one of my local friend ordered some super expensive coolant that claimed to eliminate this problem, but at the rate that I pull my engine this will be a waste.

Ah.. Prestone..

The only thing Prestone has that's any good was their radiator flush products. (Or you can use "Gunk" Chemical flush agent, or even a Vinegar / Lemon Juice mix to clear it out first.)

What's funny is that they have great videos educating about coolants/anti-freeze including the inhibitors
Prestone

Radiator flushes:

You can use that first to dissolve all that rust out of there first. that's why you still had it in there when you had the Redline water wetter w/ the distilled water.

Your radiator may also be of a pretty low grade aluminum where if some rust started in that system, it'll stay there, because the damage to the raditor already done.

Stick with the Honda OEM and Toyota Pre-mixed coolants to prevent that from happening after you've flushed the system. I've never had any rust in even the OEM radiators with the OEM Honda and Toyota Pink. (I got my Toyota concentrate from a friend of mine that works at a large capacity technical facility, so I can get it in bulk. I then use distilled water and make my own 50/50 mix for my Hondas. ) Never had a problem.

Honestly, I use rust like that as a sign that its time to change radiators to something a bit better.

I changed my radiator last year end of season from a Mishimoto 2 row to a Mishimoto 3 row radiator. I will flush with the vinegar solution (apple cider alone works right?) then I will see if I find the Toyota/Honda stuff locally, I know I can find BMW and Audi easily.

Sorry Op for drifting away from your main subject, but I am sure this information will help you also.

in the End Golden Eagle for the win.

can't use Cider. Too much natural sugar in its content to work. Vinegar only.

So this is what i gathered so far. The person that told me that aftermarket sleeves can shatter owns a 8sec 900whp eg ( thats what he says I dont know for sure) that told me about his issues with GE sleeves and how aftermarket sleeves can shatter around 700whp+. I myself got a bit worried since my b18c block is being sleeved by GE.

I tried to google aftermarket sleeves that shatter and couldnt find any info on that.

i'm not building a competition car i'm building a reliable engine that can go long distances with around 500whp on pump gas, cause i dont want to be somewhere far with engine problems..

So ive made this thread hoping that some guys already running aftermarket sleeves ( doesnt matter what brand it is) to see if they had any issue

so far rudeboy and Theshodan was the only one that replied that actually owns a sleeved block that has significant amount of mileage on it with no issues other than rust.

If aftermarket sleeves can shatter i suppose this thread would have lit up like an xmas tree. So its probably safe to assume which i dont like to assume is the reason why i created this thead is that the person that said aftermarket sleeves can shatter is full of ****.
