Default AFI Topmount, Tial 44 mvr, t3/t67 HO Turbo having boost creep issue

Hi guys, just asking what could be the problem why even im using a red 4 lb spring in a brand new tial wastegate, and its still hiiting boost cut at 15 lbs. i have a fitting welded to the cold side, right after the compressor for boost reference and straight to the bottom side of the gate. Took it for a ride and still hitting boost cut. Seem like the gate doesnt open all the way. I can see the dump tube have some black exhaust, a sign that maybe the gate open but not 100% fully open. Your advice and opinion is highly appreciated. The diaphram look good, no rip or tear and not pinched.

take the wastegate off and see if it still makes boost.

more then likely its wastegate position and not enough wastegate for the turbo. have had this problem with several mani's. not saying anything bad about afi but on a good turbo 1 wastegate just isnt enough to keep the boost down unless you run a 60mm.

It doesn't happen to be a twin scroll setup is it? I could see 1 wastegate causing that problem that way. Otherwise it sounds like too small of a wastegate or maybe a leak in the boost reference line. Might want to pressure test the system. Recently after finding some small boost leaks on a setup I thought was fine, I pressure test all cars now. I just made a turbo inlet cap that I can put shop air to and pressurize everything. Between the closed intake valves and closed exhaust valves it pretty much holds tight and you can check for leaks. I keep a laptop connected and try to keep it 30psi or less unless its a car that will push more boost than that.

Get a compressor with regulator and gauge, start at zero and see when the valve opens.... if it open at 5psi, its the wastegate location... if it doesn't open check the diaphragm for damage ........ Also make sure the top port is open and venting properly

wastegates don't open at the spring pressure when tested on a bench if it's a 4psi spring it will probably open around 7-8psi

I had a very similar issue on the dyno with an older AFI t3 topmount that had a v44 wg. After we reworked the WG placement/feed it got rid of the issue.

It's not a twin scroll setup. Turbo is a brand new t3/t67 high output ball bearing. So you guys are saying to take the gate off and drive the car, is it safe for the turbo? Thank u for the advice.

yeah, as long as its not pointed at something that can be harmed by the hot exhaust gas. check for boost leaks with taking the boost reference off of near the turbo as opposed to at the intake manifold.

I ran a t3 67 precision with a single tial on a full race ramhorn. never had an issue with creep. we used the 10lb spring on it. In first out of the hole it would see 12 maybe 13 tops. 2-4 were dead ***** on with the where the boost controller was set in the ecu.

hose have a crack, break (etc) in it?

I would say yes..I have the washers on the banjo install correctly. 1 before and and 1 after the banjo then to the gate. No rips or crack on the vacuum lines but I have the fiiting on the top of the gate installed but not hook up to anything. Do I need to remove it and just leave the bottom hook up to a boost source? Never have encounter this kind of issue before. Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

Ces,... This is my friend's car that I'm working on but I hope to get my hatch running soon.

NOtr enough gate and placement. Hqad a firend with the same issue. That nmani crept at less than 17 pounds with a 44. GT3582R

So do you think going to a bigger wastegate will solve the problem? I hate to modify the manifold if I don't have to.

Yo have to. He did... Tear dropped it for better priority. It helped, but still didnt "fix" it.

I also thought about "just run more boost". The setup may be fine for running 15-17psi.

turbos now a days are so much more advanced then in the past. back in the day 1 wastegate worked just fine cause turbos and motors were alot less efficient. with alot higher quality turbos and more efficient motors 1 44mm wastegate just isnt enough for street cars trying to run low boost. you can tear drop the wastegate pipe but its only gonna get you a couple psi more drop at the most.

Maybe you missed it, but he is talking about a t3-t67 HO. There is nothing new or advanced about this turbo. lol

It's manifold design flaws.

I ran a pt67ho on a single synapse 40mm gate without any creep issues. Are you running any t's for boost reference to the gate? I've seen those cause boost creep problems many times. Also is the hole where the exhaust comes from the manifold into the gate the same size as the gate? I've seen manifolds with smaller holes cause creep as well

hope that helps

CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAKS I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME AND FOUND SMALL VACUUM LEAK, FIXED IT AND NO MORE ISSUES JUST THROWING THAT OUT THERE
